The Israeli military announced on Wednesday that it had killed six members of the Hamas terror group in recent strikes in the Gaza Strip, including three terrorists who participated in the October 7 onslaught. , saying they posed a threat to Israeli forces. One strike on Sunday in southern Gaza’s Khan Younis killed Anas Akram Muhammad Humaida, identified by the military as a commander in Hamas’s elite Nukhba Force who invaded the Sufa army post on October 7, 2023.

Another strike on Sunday in Gaza City killed Ashraf Mahmoud Yusuf Dahlan, who, according to the IDF, was a company commander in Hamas’s East Jabalia Battalion, and who also infiltrated Israel on October 7. A strike on Monday in Gaza City killed Mahmoud Othman Abdullah Alwan, a Nukhba commander in Hamas’s West Jabalia Battalion, according to the military. A separate strike on Thursday last week in southern Gaza killed Ahmed Muhammad Ahmed Baraka, a Nukhba terrorist who invaded Kibbutz Nir Oz on October 7, the IDF said. According to the military, the terrorist took part in abducting several Israeli civilians during the onslaught, including Alex Dancyg , and during the war, he assisted in holding “numerous hostages,” including soldier Sgt. 1st Class Nimrod Cohen, in southern Gaza. ????ELIMINATED: Ahmed Muhammad Ahmed Baraka, a Nukhba terrorist in Hamas’ military wing was eliminated in southern Gaza last Thursday.

After a US-brokered ceasefire took hold in Gaza in October 2025, the so-called Yellow Line was established to divide the areas under Israeli control — recently expanded to some 63 percent of the territory — from those under Hamas control. Hamas reportedly told a UN official earlier this month that it was prepared to carry out an October 7-style attack in Israel, the West Bank or abroad, following the IDF’s expansion past the Gaza ceasefire line and the Palestinian Authority’s cancellation of legislative elections in November.

Implementation of US President Donald Trump’s peace plan for Gaza has stalled, with Hamas refusing to disarm and Israel refusing to withdraw from any part of Gaza until that condition is met. The Times of Israel calls the people Israel has killed in Gaza "terror operatives" and "terrorists" in its own voice, when its only basis is the Israeli military's word. It relays the IOF's strikes and kills without caveat but puts the one Palestinian casualty report behind "alleged Israeli fire" and a "Hamas-run" label. No Palestinian voice speaks about any of the named dead.

  1. Labels people on one side's word

    Severe

“Israel in recent months has increasingly targeted terror operatives in Gaza, including numerous terrorists who took part in the Hamas-led October 7 atrocities”

    Why this matters
In its own voice, with no attribution, the outlet calls the people Israel has been killing in Gaza "terror operatives" and "terrorists" who took part in 7 October. Only the threat claim that follows is attributed.
    The impression it gives
A reader takes it as established fact that the people killed in these strikes were terrorists and 7 October attackers.
    The context
Elsewhere the article attributes each identification to the military. The only source for who these people were is the IOF's own announcement and its social media posts. The article gives no independent check of any identity or role.

    How we know

    • Elsewhere in the article“identified by the military as a commander”
    • Elsewhere in the article“according to the IDF, was a company commander”

    Show it in the article

    Written straight

The Israeli military says it has in recent months increasingly struck people in Gaza it describes as Hamas operatives, including men it says took part in the 7 October attack. It has not offered independent evidence for these identifications.

  2. Doubts one side's dead and not the other's

    Serious

“13 people were killed and about 60 wounded by alleged Israeli fire and airstrikes”

    Why this matters
The word "alleged" casts doubt on whether Israel did the killing. The article does this to the one Palestinian casualty report it carries.
    The impression it gives
A reader is left unsure whether Israel killed these 13 people, as if Israeli responsibility were only a claim.
    The context
In its own voice the same article states Israeli strikes and the killings they caused as plain fact. It reports the military announcing that it carried out strikes across Gaza in these same days.

    How we know

    • Elsewhere in the article“Another strike on Sunday in Gaza City killed Ashraf Mahmoud Yusuf Dahlan”
    • Elsewhere in the article“it had killed six members of the Hamas terror group”

    Show it in the article

“spokesperson for the Hamas-run Gaza Civil Defense agency”

    Why this matters
The outlet tags the Palestinian source as "Hamas-run" to qualify the toll. The Israeli military's claims about who it killed carry no matching caveat.
    The impression it gives
A reader treats the Palestinian count of dead and wounded as partisan, and the Israeli army's identifications of the dead as neutral.
    The context
The army's descriptions of the dead come from the party that killed them and appear throughout the piece without any caveat. The unequal treatment falls only on the Palestinian figure.

    How we know

    • Elsewhere in the article“a Nukhba terrorist who invaded Kibbutz Nir Oz”
    • On the recordNewsCord's reading of five BBC Complaints Team responses found the BBC attaches verification caveats to Palestinian casualty figures while treating Israeli government denials as sufficient on their own, without caveat.newscord.org (opens in a new tab)

    Show it in the article

    Written straight

On Monday the Gaza Civil Defence agency said Israeli fire and airstrikes had killed 13 people and wounded about 60 over the previous 24 hours.

  3. One side gets the space

    Minor

“The military said the six operatives had recently been advancing attacks on troops and Israeli civilians and acted to restore Hamas’s capabilities, “in systematic violation of the ceasefire.””

    Why this matters
The article builds itself around the IOF's announcement and two embedded IOF posts. It ends the account of the strikes on the military's claim that the dead were violating the ceasefire.
    The impression it gives
A reader hears only the Israeli army's account of who was killed and why.
    The context
No family, witness or Palestinian source speaks about any of the named dead. The only Palestinian presence is a casualty figure that the outlet itself hedges.
