What we found (2)

The Jerusalem Post runs a police crime roundup: a body found near Bethlehem, overnight arrests in Bethlehem and Hebron, a weapons find in Kalansuwa and a man freed in Rahat. Most claims are attributed to the police. In one sentence the outlet gives the police justification for the Bethlehem raid in its own voice, and the detained Palestinians are never heard.

  1. States one side's claim as fact

    Minor

    “Acting on previously gathered intelligence”

    Why this matters
The Jerusalem Post writes the police reason for the Bethlehem home searches, "acting on previously gathered intelligence", in its own voice with no attribution.
    The impression it gives
A reader takes it as established that the raid rested on solid prior intelligence about the men whose homes were searched.
    The context
The only source for the raid is the Israel Police statement. The article attributes the Hamas link to the police in an earlier sentence but drops that attribution here, so the force's own justification reads as fact.

    • Elsewhere in the article“allegedly affiliated with the Hamas terrorist organization, according to police”

  2. One side gets the space

    Minor

“Police arrested the two suspects and transferred them to the Ma'ale Adumim police station for further investigation.”

    Why this matters
The Jerusalem Post tells the Bethlehem and Hebron arrests entirely through police statements. The men detained, their families and any lawyer appear only as suspects.
    The impression it gives
A reader hears only the force's account of night raids on Palestinian homes in the West Bank and nothing from the people whose homes were searched.
    The context
No Palestinian voice appears anywhere in the article. Every account of the raids comes from the police.

    How we know

    • Checked against the whole articleIt never uses the words “lawyer”.

What it gets right

  • “Initial findings indicate the incident was criminal in nature, rather than terror-related, police said.”

The outlet attributes the early finding about the death to the police and does not label it beyond what investigators said.

  • “who is allegedly affiliated with the Hamas terrorist organization, according to police”

The Hamas link alleged against the arrested man is marked as an allegation and sourced to the police, not stated as fact.
