Zou said the bank aims to double annual financing to about 20 billion U.S. dollars by 2030, focusing on infrastructure that supports climate resilience, renewable energy, digital transformation, regional connectivity, nature conservation and people-centered development.

Ali bin Ahmed Al Kuwari, Minister of Finance of Qatar and Chair of the Board of Governors, said, "We are pleased to welcome AIIB members and partners to Doha for this important gathering."

Qatar chairs governors roundtable

Ali bin Ahmed Al Kuwari chaired the Governors’ Business Roundtable at the AIIB Annual Meeting 2026 in Doha, Qatar, and the roundtable discussed scaling up investment, mobilising private capital and strengthening cooperation with development institutions. The roundtable discussions addressed ways to strengthen the bank’s role in its second decade by expanding the range of services provided to member countries, fostering innovation and adding greater value to development projects throughout the project cycle.

Ali bin Ahmed Al Kuwari underscored the importance of the bank continuing to adopt a member-focused approach while strengthening coordination and cooperation to accelerate the implementation of development projects. The Qatar Tribune said the meeting opened in Doha on Sunday under the patronage and in the presence of Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs HE Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al Thani.

Financing growth, accountability debate

AIIB President Zou Jiayi said the bank has approved more than 79 billion U.S. dollars for over 400 projects across 43 economies while maintaining AAA ratings from major international credit-rating agencies. Zou said the bank will aim to broadly double annual financing by 2030 to around USD20 billion, and she framed the next stage as scaling up development impact with innovation and integrity.

Civil society groups at the AIIB Annual Meeting 2026 called on the bank to establish a roadmap for phasing out fossil fuels and to strengthen accountability to communities affected by the projects. Hemantha Withanage said, "The AIIB must accept that communities on the ground are the primary stakeholders in its climate and infrastructure financing," while Nazareth Del Pilar said, "If AIIB takes its rhetoric seriously, it should start with a genuine, well-resourced consultation process".
