Anthropic said the system can plan payroll, close the month, run a sales campaign, and chase invoices, with each workflow requiring user approval before anything sends, posts, or pays.

In Anthropic’s description of how it works, Claude does the work while users approve before anything “sends, posts, or pays,” and it ships with 15 ready-to-run agentic workflows across finance, operations, sales, marketing, HR, and customer service.

Quartz reported that once enabled, paying subscribers gain access to a set of 15 pre-built workflows covering finance, operations, sales, marketing, HR, and customer service, alongside 15 skills targeting tasks owners identified as their biggest time drains.

Training, tour, and control

Anthropic and PayPal are offering a free on-demand course called AI Fluency for Small Business, and Quartz said the course covers how to apply AI to business operations.

The launch also includes a 10-city promotional tour beginning Wednesday in Chicago, with each stop offering a free half-day training workshop for 100 local small business leaders and attendees receiving a one-month Claude Max subscription.

Axios said Claude for Small business connects Claude to QuickBooks, PayPal, HubSpot, Canva, Docusign, Google Workspace, and Microsoft 365 through Claude Cowork, and it includes built-in workflows across finance, operations, sales, marketing, HR and customer service.

In Axios’s account of Anthropic’s positioning, Lina Ochman, Anthropic’s head of SMB, said, “Historically, the software industry has been built for enterprises or VC-backed startups and consumers,” and she contrasted that with “the 15-person HVAC company or the 30-person landscaper or the 50-person real estate brokerage.”

Axios also emphasized user control, quoting Anthropic’s approach that “Users initiate each workflow, approve the plan and sign off before anything gets sent, posted or paid,” while existing account permissions carry over and Anthropic said it does not train on customer data by default on Team and Enterprise plans.

Workflows, integrations, and stakes

Anthropic said Claude for Small Business is designed to move beyond the chat window by embedding Claude into the tools small business owners already use, including QuickBooks, PayPal, HubSpot, Canva, Docusign, Google Workspace, and Microsoft 365.

In Anthropic’s workflow descriptions, PayPal powers settlements, invoicing, disputes, and refunds inside Claude, while Intuit QuickBooks handles payroll planning, the monthly close, and cash-flow, and HubSpot runs lead triage, customer pulse, and campaign attribution.

The company said Canva generates content for every channel with collaboration and editing, publishes assets, and tracks performance, and Docusign sends contracts out for signature, tracks status, and files the executed copy back where it belongs.

TechCrunch reported that Anthropic’s new suite is available via a newly introduced toggle within Claude Cowork, and it said paying users gain access to automated services including bookkeeping functions, business insights, and generative tools for ad campaigns.

TechCrunch also framed the move as a downmarket push, quoting Anthropic that “Small businesses account for 44% of U.S. GDP and employ nearly half the private-sector workforce,” while noting that the company planned a coast-to-coast promotional tour starting in Chicago and hitting 10 cities in total.
