First developer betas of iOS 27.3 and watchOS 27.3 released. Siri Recap and Live Rewind are among new Audio Intelligence features.

Siri Recap and Live Rewind

Apple released the first developer betas of iOS 27.3 and watchOS 27.3, bringing Audio Intelligence features into testing on Apple Watch Series 12 and Apple Watch Ultra 4. Apple’s Live Rewind lets users double-press the Digital Crown to display a text snippet of roughly the previous 15 seconds of speech, and Apple pairs that with an audible chime and on-screen animation even in silent mode. Apple’s Siri Recap generates a title, short summary, and key points for conversations in the Siri app, and the system is designed to omit sensitive details such as financial data or government identifiers.

Apple says the watch uses a hardware-isolated compartment called Secure Exclave built into the S11 processor, and Apple says data processed there cannot be accessed by watchOS, apps, the user, or Apple. Apple also says that for Siri Recap the iPhone decrypts the audio, an on-device language model extracts conversation highlights, and the raw audio is immediately and permanently deleted.

Privacy debate and opt-in

Apple’s approach relies on opt-in controls, short buffers, no persistent raw recordings, and visible or audible cues for Live Rewind rather than continuous recording. TechCrunch said it found the features “surprisingly useful — and a little unsettling,” while describing how Live Rewind and Siri Recaps “record and then transcribe or summarize the conversations happening with and around the Apple Watch’s owner.” Apple’s privacy framing emphasizes that the features do not identify speakers, do not store raw audio files, and use on-device processing when possible.

Apple’s Secure Exclave is built into the S11 processor and “the Watch never records your voice,” while also noting that Apple “still hasn't said how others can know the Apple Watch is recording everything all the time.” Processing is performed entirely on-device, does not store audio files, and emits a sound alert each time a live summary is generated.

Health app redesign and rollout

iOS 27.3 beta also includes a complete structural refresh of the Health app, reorganized into three sections: Information, Longevity, and Health Age. The Health Age feature is “an algorithm that calculates and estimates the user’s biological age” by cross-referencing bodily metrics and recorded habits. Apple’s betas are testing at scale always-on AI tools, an AI platform for China, and a new Health app, and the full rollout is planned for December.

Siri Recap and Live Rewind require an iPhone 16 or later with Apple Intelligence and Siri AI, and the features are in English only to begin with and are not available to users under 13. The developer betas are available now and a public beta is expected to follow, with a full consumer release targeted for December.
