BRICS Urges Israel To Withdraw Forces From Lebanese Territories After Lebanon Ceasefire

BRICS leaders welcomed the ceasefire in Lebanon and called for full implementation of UN Security Council Resolution 1701, while condemning continued violations of the ceasefire and of Lebanon’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.

In the New Delhi Declaration, BRICS urged Israel to respect the terms agreed with the Lebanese government and to withdraw its occupying forces from all Lebanese territories where they remain.

The joint statement also framed the Lebanon issue alongside a broader call for “maximum restraint” in West Asia, warning against actions that could further aggravate tensions.

BRICS leaders said they welcomed the ceasefire and called on all parties to strictly adhere to its terms and to the full implementation of United Nations Security Council Resolution 1701.

BRICS underscored the “vital role” of the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) and called for measures to ensure the safety, security, and freedom of movement of all UN personnel and their equipment.

The group condemned attacks on UNIFIL facilities and personnel, stressing that such attacks constitute violations of international law and UN Security Council Resolution 1701 (2006).

In its New Delhi Declaration language, BRICS also expressed “deep concern” over deliberate attacks on civilian infrastructure and peaceful nuclear facilities under full IAEA safeguards.

BRICS leaders reiterated their condemnation of violations tied to Lebanon’s sovereignty and territorial integrity while linking the Lebanon ceasefire to wider escalation concerns in West Asia/West Asia.

BRICS called for accountability for those responsible for attacks affecting UNIFIL and urged all parties to ensure the safety and freedom of movement of UNIFIL personnel and their assets, as well as the inviolability of UN premises.

The group also tied its Lebanon position to a wider insistence on international legal obligations, including international humanitarian law and international human rights law, and condemned the “unlawful obstruction of humanitarian aid.”

BRICS leaders reaffirmed support for UNRWA and stressed the need to fully respect its mandate as given by the UN General Assembly to provide essential services to Palestinian refugees in its five areas of operation.

In the same summit statement, BRICS reiterated its commitment to the sovereignty, independence, unity, and territorial integrity of Syria and called for a peaceful and comprehensive political transition facilitated by the United Nations.
