Trump attacks El-Sayed
President Donald Trump launched an early-morning Truth Social posting spree on Election Day, attacking Michigan Democratic Senate nominee Abdul El-Sayed. Trump claimed in a post that El-Sayed hates Jews, Blacks, and Whites while urging voters to reject him in the Michigan Senate race.
During the rapid-posting streak, Trump issued more than 70 endorsements for Republican candidates in a single hour. The Independent described Trump’s outburst as targeting El-Sayed in a “vicious Truth Social outburst,” while the same Independent account said Trump highlighted a division among Michigan Democrats after Representative Haley Stevens unexpectedly endorsed Republican candidate Mike Rogers over El-Sayed.
Stevens backs Rogers
Rep. Haley Stevens defended her decision to endorse Republican Michigan Senate nominee Mike Rogers over Democrat Abdul El-Sayed as “a decision of conscience.”
Stevens wrote that she was troubled by political ads associated with El-Sayed and by the way she was treated by his campaign after she endorsed him after losing the primaries in August.
Stevens also dismissed rumors that her fiancé, Jewish megadonor Jason Turkish, influenced her decision to withdraw her endorsement, saying, “That is sexism dressed up as political analysis,”.
The Jerusalem Post said Michigan Democratic Party Chair Curtis Hertel noted that Stevens “is not a current member of the Michigan Democratic Party, nor will she be in the future,” and it added that Stevens was expelled about an hour after she endorsed Rogers on Sunday.
Campaign fractures and stakes
Clarin said Democrat Haley Stevens appeared alongside Republican Rogers during a church service in Detroit, confirmed by Rogers' campaign team through a photo shared on social media by his spokesperson Abby Ronson at Perfecting Church.
“There is no institution, no billionaire, no special interests. No one dictates to him what to do or say.”
Clarin described the appearance as marking an internal fracture within the Democratic ranks on the eve of the elections and a split with progressive candidate Abdul El-Sayed.
Clarin said Stevens’ relationship with El-Sayed deteriorated over disagreements about the candidate’s stance on Israel and the release of a controversial political ad.
The Al-Jazirah Net account said Dr. Sara Joakaco, wife of Democratic Senate candidate Abdul El-Sayed, told supporters at his final campaign rally at the Majestic Theater in Detroit that “There is no institution, no billionaire, no special interests. No one dictates to him what to do or say.”
