Last Republican President Warning
U.S. President Donald Trump warned that he could become “the last Republican president” if Democrats take control of the Senate, linking the prospect to the filibuster and the upcoming November legislative elections.

In an interview published by Punchbowl News, Trump said, “If we don’t fix the election system, I may be the last Republican president,” and he added that Democrats would “scrap the filibuster” if they took back control of the upper chamber.
Trump also told Punchbowl News that “If they get in, they’re going to do it very quickly,” and he said Republicans would “get in the next two and a half years” and “stay in power for the next hundred years.”
Brussels Signal reported that Trump said Republican supporters may stay at home at November’s midterm elections because his own name will not appear on the ballot, while he still expected his party to hold both chambers.
Filibuster Fight and Party Friction
Trump used Michigan Democratic Senate nominee Abdulrahman Mohamed El-Sayed’s calls to abolish the filibuster to pressure Senate Republicans, writing in a Truth Social post that El-Sayed was touting “the Termination of the Filibuster.”
The Hill reported that Trump warned that if El-Sayed “succeeds,” Democrats “would gain four senators, eight congressmen” and that Trump would be “the last Republican president.”
Puranoticia.cl said Trump urged the Republican bench to “espabilar” ahead of November’s legislative elections, attributing the risk to “enfado” among part of the electorate and warning that his absence on the ballots could reduce participation.
Brussels Signal also tied the filibuster push to the Safeguard American Voter Eligibility (SAVE America) Act, saying Trump had spent recent weeks pressing Senate Republicans to abolish the filibuster and pass the SAVE America Act.

Trump’s warning is framed around Senate control math, with Brussels Signal reporting that Republicans hold 53 of the Senate’s 100 seats and that Democrats would need a net gain of four to take the chamber.

In the same reporting, Brussels Signal said Trump’s pressure on Senate Republicans to abolish the filibuster and pass the SAVE America Act is complicated by the confirmation fight over acting attorney general Todd Blanche, with Senator Susan Collins saying she will oppose him and Lisa Murkowski and Cassidy not saying how they will vote.
Trump also told Punchbowl News he would make available to Republican candidates his campaign and fundraising infrastructure to try to maintain majorities, while Infobae reported his argument that “many are very angry with the Republicans, to be honest. With the Republicans, not with me.”
Infobae added that Trump urged his senators to “wake up” or he’ll be “the last Republican president,” and it linked the warning to his claim that if the Senate doesn’t wake up, he might end up as the last Republican president.
