University struck twice

Israeli airstrikes and drone attacks killed at least eight Palestinians across Gaza, including three security guards killed in an attack on the Islamic University campus in Gaza City, with seven female students injured in an earlier strike on the same campus. Al Jazeera’s Hani Mahmoud described the scene after the campus strike, saying, “The aftermath was massive.” The Islamic University suspended academic and administrative work at its Gaza City campus after the second attack, and the Popular Resistance Committees in Palestine condemned the university attacks.

Hamas said the raids on the Islamic University premises in Gaza City, “while students were present,” resulted in the martyrdom of three university staff and injuries to others, and Hamas called the incident a war crime. Gaza’s Health Ministry figures cited in the reporting put the death toll since the “ceasefire” began in October 2025 at 1,551 people killed and 5,573 injured.

Ceasefire, deaths, and claims

Gaza’s Health Ministry reported that hospitals received the bodies of eleven Palestinians during the preceding 24 hours, including eight newly killed Palestinians and three whose bodies were recovered, alongside 35 injured Palestinians. IMEMC News tied the 24-hour toll to Israeli gunfire, airstrikes and artillery shelling that killed at least twelve Palestinians, including a child and three university employees, across the Gaza Strip on Sunday and early Monday. Arab League Secretary-General Nabil Fahmy warned that the Gaza ceasefire remained fragile and called for full implementation of a UN Security Council resolution, while he said more than 1,500 Palestinians had been killed since the ceasefire took effect in October 2025.

Hamas urged mediators to “assume their responsibilities, intervene immediately, and pressure Israel to "stop its ongoing crimes against civilians",” and Hamas said the raids were an extension of the ongoing genocide war for more than three years. The reporting also said the Israeli military has not commented on the reported strikes, while the accounts described attacks on the Islamic University and other sites across Gaza.

What comes next

Hamas called on mediators and guarantors of the Gaza ceasefire to pressure Israel to stop ongoing crimes against civilians, end the siege, and provide relief to more than two million people facing daily hunger and killings. An Anadolu Agency report said Hamas urged mediators to intervene immediately and pressure Israel to “stop its ongoing crimes against civilians, end the siege, and aid more than two million people facing hunger and daily killings.” The same reporting said Israel continues assaults on the enclave with shelling, gunfire, and demolition operations in areas it occupies, expanding its control there, and it cited that control levels rose from 53 percent in October 2025 to more than 63 percent.

IMEMC News described additional attacks beyond the university, including an Israeli strike on a tent for a displaced family in the Rimal neighborhood of Gaza city and gunfire and an Israeli drone strike hitting tents sheltering displaced Palestinians in the al-Iqlimi area of al-Mawasi in southern Gaza. The reporting also said the UN action urged Arab League Secretary-General Nabil Fahmy warned that developments in Gaza were testing the credibility of the international system, and it stressed the need to implement UN Security Council Resolution 2803.
