Texas drowning case
In Rowlett, Texas, an 18-year-old man, Daniel Erving, drowned in Lake Ray Hubbard in April after he and two other young men—19-year-old Lucas Roper and a 17-year-old—jumped into the lake from a bridge, according to an arrest affidavit.
Dallas Police said after a thorough investigation they determined Daniel Erving’s cause of death was accidental, but the family is now calling for murder charges after Roper and the 17-year-old were arrested for tampering with evidence.

The two suspects are accused of throwing out Daniel Erving’s clothes and cellphone and driving away from the scene in his car, and the affidavit says Roper admitted to deleting text messages between him and the 18-year-old from his phone.
Daniel’s mother, Tameca Erving, said, “Complete agony, day and night, from the moment we wake up to the moment we go to sleep,” while family attorney Sean Daredia said, “This family has a distrust of the Dallas Police Department.”
Dallas Police and the district attorney declined to comment due to this being an active investigation.
Epstein committee seeks affidavits
In Washington, the House Oversight Committee discussed with Jeffrey Epstein survivors the possibility of the women providing affidavits about longtime Epstein assistant Lesley Groff, coming after multiple survivors told CNN that Groff had lied to the committee last month.
CNN reported that House Oversight Chair James Comer told Jake Tapper, “We need affidavits, sworn affidavits,” as the committee deliberations were confirmed to CNN by three sources familiar with the matter.
The article says committee investigators have been poring over Groff’s testimony and references in the Epstein files to determine whether Groff was truthful, and it notes that Groff has denied any knowledge of Epstein’s crimes.
CNN also reported that Lara Blume McGee said she remembers meeting Groff at least twice at Epstein’s townhouse, and Lisa Phillips told CNN, “Of course I’ve met her in person.”
CNN added that Groff told lawmakers last month she had been duped by a “master manipulator and deceiver,” and it said the release of her interview transcript drew outrage from Epstein survivors.
