Goldman buys NEOS
Goldman Sachs agreed to acquire NEOS Investments in a cash-and-equity deal valued at up to $2.25 billion, a move that would bring NEOS’s options-based income ETF business into Goldman Sachs Asset Management.
“valued at up to $2.25 billion”
The acquisition is expected to close during the first quarter of 2027, pending regulatory approval, and Goldman said the transaction is subject to performance targets and service commitments.

NEOS is described as the firm behind BTCI, a $1.1 billion bitcoin synthetic exchange-traded fund (ETF) that yields roughly 27%, and the deal would fold NEOS’s roughly $30 billion in options-based income ETFs into Goldman’s platform.
As of June 30, 2026, Goldman Sachs Asset Management, Innovator from Goldman Sachs Asset Management and NEOS manage more than $130 billion in ETF assets under supervision (AUS), according to Goldman’s statement and Bloomberg-cited figures.
Bitcoin income strategy
CoinDesk says BTCI launched in October 2024 and has crossed $1 billion in assets in under two years, while Eric Balchunas of Bloomberg said in an X post that it holds spot bitcoin exchange-traded products (ETPs) and sells call options against those positions to generate monthly distributions.
Balchunas also framed the trade-off in terms of upside, saying it does not directly hold bitcoin and investors receive the yield from the product but forfeit some of the upside when bitcoin rallies.

In parallel, Fortune reports that nearly two dozen options-based income ETFs behind NEOS command some $32 billion in assets, and it quotes Marc Nachmann saying “Neos has been on a tremendous growth trajectory.”
Goldman’s own framing, as quoted by planadviser, ties the acquisition to investor demand for active ETFs, with David Solomon saying NEOS’ “disciplined investment approach is highly complementary” across buffer, managed outcome and income strategies.
Scale and next steps
The deal is positioned as a scale play for Goldman’s ETF franchise, with planadviser saying the combined platform would manage $130 billion in ETF assets across NEOS, Goldman’s existing ETFs, and its recent acquisition of Innovator Capital Management.
“expected to close in the first quarter of 2027”
Markets Media says the acquisition will add $30 billion in active income ETFs to Goldman Sachs Asset Management’s $40 billion in income and outcome-oriented options-based ETF solutions, and it describes the combined platform as making Goldman the eighth-largest active ETF provider.
Goldman also said the transaction consideration of up to $2.25 billion in cash and equity is subject to the achievement of certain performance and/or service commitments, and it expects the deal to close in the first quarter of 2027 subject to regulatory approval.
After closing, NEOS co-founders Troy Cates and Garrett Paolella are set to join Goldman Sachs Asset Management as partners, and the full NEOS team is expected to transfer as well, according to Banking Dive and Markets Media.
