Trump rejects Hormuz proposal

U.S. President Donald Trump rejected an Iranian proposal to reopen the Strait of Hormuz and end the fighting, and Iranian officials responded by saying the Iranian armed forces are ready for new American attacks.

Iranian Army spokesperson Mohammad Reza Naeimi said the Iranian armed forces are fully prepared for confrontation and warned that the United States would suffer greater damage if it launched another attack on his country.

Iran’s Commander-in-Chief of the Iranian Armed Forces, Amir Hatami, said the war has reached a critical and decisive stage and that Tehran will not accept a situation in which it is unable to trade while foreign powers use the strategic waterways in the region.

Amir Hatami said, “If Iran cannot trade, if Iran cannot live, no one will be able to trade or live,” and he added that “The Strait of Hormuz is the strait of our dignity and honor.”

Readiness for confrontation

Iranian Army spokesperson Mohammad Amini-Nia said on Sunday that the United States “may launch a new attack because of its poor regional position,” according to Reuters citing official Iranian media. Mohammad Amini-Nia added that Tehran “is ready for confrontation and will cause greater harm to the United States,” while Commander-in-Chief Lieutenant General Ahmad Hatami said the War Imposed on Iran has not ended yet.

ISNA reported that Hatami said the war is passing through a “critical and decisive” phase and that Iranian forces must remain on alert amid “the enemy delivering severe blows,” in his words. Hatami also criticized the United States’ stances, accusing it of seeking to sow unrest inside Iran and push it toward civil war, and he affirmed that “his country will confront any attempt to destabilize it.”

Strait of Hormuz stakes

Iran’s Armed Forces spokesman Abulfazl Shakarji said the Iranian army confirmed it is ready to respond to any potential American aggression with greater tempo and by using modern military means. Shakarji said Iran has “new surprises for the enemy,” and he added that it will respond to any potential “aggression” using modern military technologies.

Shakarji also said that the Strait of Hormuz is under Iran’s control, and he warned that “any vessel trying to pass outside the route Iran defines will not enjoy security.” In parallel, The News Pakistan framed the wider escalation risk by saying disruptions in the Strait of Hormuz and Bab el-Mandeb put around 35 percent of sea trade at risk, raising concerns over potential disruption to the Suez Canal and global supply chains.
