Shelling hits Quneitra

Israeli occupation forces renewed their artillery shelling on sites inside Syrian territory, targeting with six shells the southern outskirts of the town of Arfid in the southern Quneitra countryside.

An Al Jazeera reporter said the shelling also hit the area of Tel Bat al-Warda, located on the outskirts of the town of Beit Jin in western Rif Damascus.

A SANA correspondent reported that Israeli occupation forces shelled agricultural land and a hillside in the Damascus Countryside and Quneitra countryside on Saturday, with no casualties reported.

SANA said artillery rounds struck the vicinity of Bat al-Warda hill near the town of Beit Jinn, and Israeli forces also shelled agricultural land south of the town of al-Rafid in the southern Quneitra countryside, followed by gunfire from occupation forces positioned on al-Jalaa hill within the occupied Syrian Golan.

SANA added that on Sept. 3, Israeli forces shelled the same area near Bat al-Warda hill with four artillery rounds, with no casualties reported.

Disengagement violations

SANA said Israel continues to violate the 1974 Disengagement Agreement through repeated incursions into southern Syria, raiding homes, detaining civilians, bulldozing land and carrying out shelling attacks. The SANA correspondent also said Syria consistently demands the withdrawal of Israeli occupation forces from its territory, stressing that all Israeli measures are null and void under international law. In Quneitra, Al Jazeera said Israeli artillery shells fell on agricultural lands, followed by shooting from occupation forces stationed on Jabal al-Jall in the Israeli-occupied Golan, with no injuries reported.

Al Jazeera further reported that in the same context, Israeli occupation forces continue their field violations of the 1974 disengagement agreement by carrying out ground incursions and new raids on the homes of civilians in Quneitra province in southern Syria. Al Jazeera quoted 'Syria Now' as saying that a force belonging to the occupation army raided a home in the village of al-Asbah in southern Quneitra and fired live ammunition into the air to terrorize residents before withdrawing.

Checkpoints and negotiations

Al-Arabi Al-Jadid said Israeli occupation forces renewed their military movements in southern Syria, targeting by artillery shells Tel Amara East in the eastern Quneitra countryside, while establishing temporary checkpoints and carrying out incursions in areas of the Quneitra and Daraa countryside. The report said an Israeli force consisting of three vehicles set up a checkpoint in the village of Ofania in the northern Quneitra countryside, and that a military force penetrated the road linking the villages of Jumla and Saizan in the western Daraa countryside, establishing a temporary checkpoint for about half an hour before withdrawing toward the occupied territories. Al-Arabi Al-Jadid also said that earlier on Wednesday night, an Israeli force of ten vehicles entered the village of Ain Ziywan in the Quneitra countryside, where the force conducted a house search before leaving the area.

The same source said Syrian Foreign Minister and Expatriates Asaad al-Shibli confirmed last Tuesday that Damascus had entered negotiations mediated by the United States aimed at stopping Israeli assaults and arrests, and that Syrian authorities had recorded 117 Israeli infiltrations into Syrian territory during July and August of the previous year. Al-Arabi Al-Jadid added that the Syrian Foreign Minister considered Israel’s declaration of keeping its forces inside Syrian territory a "clear declaration to entrench the occupation," as Israeli military movements continued in the Quneitra and Daraa governorates.
