Vance family leases part of Wolver Hill Farm in Middleburg as additional residence. Secret Service plans to establish security presence around Middleburg property.

Vance seeks Virginia residence
Vice President JD Vance and his family are considering an additional residence in Middleburg, Virginia, as the Secret Service plans to provide additional security to the new home, NBC News reported on July 10, 2026. NBC News said a senior law enforcement official told the outlet that the security planning is tied to a new residence for Vance and his family in Middleburg. CNN reported that Vance is leasing part of the historic Wolver Hill Farm, which spans nearly 500 acres on the outskirts of Middleburg, Virginia.
CNN said Wolver Hill Farm is owned by a firm led by Charles Kuhn, the founder of a moving company that has moved several presidents into and out of the White House, including President Donald Trump. CNN added that Vance and his family are maintaining their official residence at the Naval Observatory while he is expected to stay at the Middleburg property on occasion.

Security and lease terms
CNN reported that Vance is renting part of the Middleburg property primarily for his wife and three kids, and that the vice president is expected to stay there on occasion while maintaining his official residence at the Naval Observatory.
In a statement, Vance’s personal attorney, Chris Ashby, said the vice president planned to pay market value for the property, adding, "The rent will be at fair market value, determined with reference to the rent for comparable properties in the area,".

CNN also said Kuhn did not respond to a request for comment about the lease.
FauquierNow reported that Vance and his family are taking up part-time residence in Middleburg and that the Vance family leased part of the 500-acre Wolver Hill Farm north of town from real estate and business magnate Chuck Kuhn.
FauquierNow said the Vances are expecting their fourth child later this month and that the vice president’s family primarily lives in the U.S. Naval Observatory in Northwest Washington, D.C.
Kuhn’s land, data centers
Multiple outlets linked the Middleburg lease to Charles “Chuck” Kuhn and his Wolver Hill Farm, with CNN describing Kuhn as a major player in data center development across Virginia. CNN said Wolver Hill Farm is owned by a firm led by Charles Kuhn and that Kuhn’s company reportedly sold a nearly 100-acre parcel of land to a data center investor for $615 million in one deal last November. The Daily Beast’s investigative Substack PunchUp said Vance is eyeing a $9 million Virginia mansion owned by Kuhn, describing Wolver Hill as a historic horse-farming estate up for rent in Middleburg.
“In one deal last November, Kuhn’s company reportedly sold a nearly 100-acre parcel of land to a data center investor for $615 million.”
PunchUp also said Kuhn’s data center empire is booming under a policy championed by the vice president, and it described Kuhn as Charles “Chuck” Kuhn, 60. LoudounNow said Wolver Hill Farm is owned by the Kuhn family, that the estate was purchased as a 500-acre property in 2021 and placed under conservation easements, and it quoted Secret Service spokesman Tom Lynch: "The Secret Service provides comprehensive protection to the Vice President anywhere in the world."
