Khamenei urges accelerated progress in basic sciences after war with the United States. Calls elites to break scientific boundaries to strengthen Iran and shift knowledge center.
Post-war scientific push
Iran’s Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei called for accelerated scientific progress after the end of the war with the United States, urging a focus on “pushing the boundaries of basic sciences” and exploring “uncharted paths.” Khamenei said, “Providing the necessary infrastructure and removing technological bottlenecks to enable action and operation beyond national borders creates a combination of internal strength for expanding horizons on a global scale,” according to remarks carried in the Caspian Post. Ayatollah Seyyed Mojtaba Khamenei issued a message on Monday coinciding with the martyrdom anniversary of Lady Fatimah Zahra (peace be upon her), addressing Iran’s scientific and sports medalists.
Khamenei congratulated the Iranian people on successes in scientific Olympiads including astronomy, mathematics, physics, chemistry, biology, computer science, artificial intelligence, and humanities, and he praised triumphs in international sports arenas. The leader also praised female athletes, saying they “make the honorable symbol of the Iranian women’s attire shine before the world.”
Elites, infrastructure, enemies
Khamenei told Iranian elites and scientific and sporting medalists that “The key to making Iran even stronger is the boundary-breaking work and problem-solving of the country's elites in scientific matters.” Khamenei called on officials to “provide necessary infrastructure” for a deep and rapid scientific leap, linking that support to the country’s scientific strength. Khamenei said the “malice and crimes committed by the enemies of Islamic Iran against its scientists and elites demonstrate the effective role of elites in strengthening the country,” in a statement shared by Middle East Eye.
Khamenei framed the hostility of Iran’s enemies as a reason elites must keep advancing, saying “A strong Iran depends on scientific and technological power, and this core pillar is one of the most important factors for shaping Iran’s role in the emerging global equations and the new world order.” Khamenei also warned that enemies use “every means and method at its disposal to weaken the elite of our dear Iran,” including spreading hopelessness and discouragement among the elite.
From research to supremacy
Khamenei cited a range of fields where Iranian elites have turned knowledge into practical tools, including stem cell research, nanotechnology, and biotechnology, as well as advanced aerospace technologies. Khamenei pointed to electricity generated by Iranian turbines, knowledge-based desalination plants, agricultural drones, and advanced technologies at the Royan Institute, and he also referenced radiopharmaceuticals and remote-sensing satellites. Khamenei said the recently imposed wars have shown the new scientific surge must now be “both profound and accelerated,” and he directed officials and the academic community toward a “serious, practical, and well-defined plan.”
Khamenei described physics, chemistry, biology, and mathematics as the primary driving force behind a nation’s scientific and technological progress, and he called for sustained attention toward undiscovered realities and solving unsolved problems in mathematics. Khamenei said “The cornerstone of any true scientific advancement lies in creativity and innovation,” and he urged an environment that encourages positive imagination and scientific courage, supported by meaningful incentives.
