Qivalis pushes stablecoin trade

Jan-Oliver Sell, CEO and founder of Qivalis, said the entire trade finance supply chain is moving into stablecoins as he described a stablecoin-driven transformation of the trade finance use case. Qivalis said it has onboarded 37 European banks in the past year and has grown from scratch to 40 staffers while it seeks an Electronic Money Institution (EMI) license in the Netherlands.

Sell said a supplier in East Africa can trade with someone in Kazakhstan and that "everything is done using stablecoins and they don’t even off-ramp," linking the shift to faster collateral movement. Sell also said, "you can start rotating collateral in minutes rather than days," as he argued that stablecoins add the cash leg and payment side that earlier blockchain efforts lacked.

Regulation and multi-stablecoin

Qivalis said it is close to securing an EMI license out of the Netherlands from the Dutch Central Bank (DNB) and plans to go live by the end of this next year with a regulated euro stablecoin. Sell said, "we're going to end up with a multi-stablecoin world where the flows will start to look like they do in fiat," as he argued Europeans are not going to live in dollars.

Sell said the stablecoin market is dominated by USD-pegged tokens, particularly those issued by Tether and Circle, while he said neither Japanese nor Koreans would operate in U.S. dollars. Sell tied the outlook to Europe’s Markets in Crypto Assets framework and said "some of the more recently convened U.S. bank-heavy stablecoin consortia are likely some way behind Qivalis" on go-live timing.

Crypto in sports loyalty

Uptop launched Avalanche-backed rewards platforms for the University of Michigan, Penn State, LSU, Baylor, the University of Memphis, and the University of Nevada, Reno, with the rollouts happening primarily between August and September 2026. Penn State kicked things off on August 24, and each school ran a branded program, including Wolverine Rewards for Michigan and Geaux Rewards for LSU.

The platform used Avalanche under the hood while fans earned points by attending games, shopping at partnered merchants, and engaging with school athletics content, and fans redeemed points for tickets, merchandise, and exclusive experiences. The program also used a card-linking system where qualifying purchases at partner merchants automatically generated points, and the Avalanche blog post framed the technology as infrastructure for a new kind of sports business model.
