Qassem marks anniversary
Hezbollah Secretary-General Sheikh Naim Qassem spoke during the central festival organized by Hezbollah on Saturday, September 27, 2026, to commemorate the second anniversary of the martyrdom of Hezbollah’s two general secretaries, Sayyid Hassan Nasrallah and Sayyid Hashem Tabban (Hashem Safi al-Din), at the Shrine of the Master of the Martyrs of the Nation. Sheikh Qassem told the audience, “We are on the covenant: We are on the steadfastness,” and he said the slogan means “we are continuing, and that leadership that is martyred will be replaced by leadership that continues the same path.” Sheikh Qassem also said, “Sheikh, Palestine will remain the compass and the liberation of our land as well,” and he framed the anniversary as a moment that “has granted us resilience and endurance.”

Hezbollah’s Secretary-General then addressed Sayyid Hashem Safi al-Din by saying, “you did not rest and you did not tire,” and he described Sayyid Hassan Nasrallah as “the master of the nation’s martyrs.” Sheikh Qassem added that Hezbollah’s Shura Board decided to name the entire phase that began with the battle of ‘Awwali al-Baas’ up to today the phase “We are on the covenant,” explaining that it is an Islamic, national, and humanitarian resistance.
State versus resistance
Sheikh Naim Qassem criticized Lebanese authorities for what he described as forgetting “the question: What did the state do? Who defends against aggression on a state? The authorities order the army to repel the occupation.”
Sheikh Qassem asserted that “Submitting to aggression is surrender; we reject it, and Lebanon must remain united without giving up any part of its territory,” and he said the problem is “the aggression, not the resistance.”
In a separate address, Sheikh Qassem told residents of destroyed villages, “You are a living embodiment of honor, dignity, pride, humanity, and sacrifice,” and he said Hezbollah was committed to providing shelter, repairs, and reconstruction through its own resources and donations.
Sheikh Qassem also said the president “has no right to relinquish Lebanon’s and its people’s and army’s right to defend its territory or to hold the occupier accountable,” and he said the president bears primary responsibility for protecting Lebanon’s sovereignty.
Sheikh Qassem argued that the framework agreement was a “shameful concession by the Lebanese authorities,” which he said surrendered Lebanon’s leverage and all its potential demands in a single session to the benefit of “Israel.”
Rally plans in Beirut
A central rally was scheduled for this Sunday, September 27, in the southern suburbs of Beirut as the second anniversary of the death of Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah approached. Hezbollah’s Media Relations Office scheduled the main ceremony for 4:30 p.m. at the Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah Mausoleum in the Bir Hassan neighborhood in the southern suburbs of Beirut, to mark the second anniversary of his disappearance and that of Hachem Safieddine. Lebanese authorities put traffic measures in place, and the Internal Security Forces announced the closure, from 1:00 p.m. until the end of the ceremony, of several roads leading to the mausoleum from the old airport road and the Ziad Rahbani Highway.
Supporters gathered at the site since the morning, raising portraits of Hassan Nasrallah and Hezbollah flags in preparation for the afternoon ceremony, and Al-Manar TV aired new footage showing Hassan Nasrallah driving in a car in the southern suburbs of Beirut. The Palestinian Resistance Committees paid tribute to Hassan Nasrallah, and the report said excerpts from his speech on September 22, 2006, after the end of the 33-day war, accompanied certain sequences.
