In the same reporting, Al Jazeera Net said a drone swarm attacked Omdurman and Bahri in the capital Khartoum, while Atbara and the Dammar in Nile River State were hit by drone airstrikes on Wednesday morning.

Al Jazeera Net also described a separate strike in Al-Ubayyid, where witnesses said an attack by eight drones led to the activation of the army’s air defenses, and a medical source confirmed two deaths and six injuries due to drone shelling.

Al Jazeera Net added that the city’s electricity, fuel, food, and water supplies were drained by drone strikes and siege tactics, threatening a major humanitarian crisis with estimates that Al-Ubayyid has half a million residents and about 100,000 had previously fled.

Air defenses and casualties

Al Jazeera Net said the army’s ground defenses shot down more than 40 hovering attack drones belonging to the RSF, targeting cities including Omdurman, Bahri, Khartoum, Atbara, El Obeid, and El Damira.

A medical source for Al Jazeera told Al Jazeera Net that two people were killed and six injured as a result of drone shelling on the city of El Obeid, the capital of North Kordofan State.

Al Jazeera Net also reported that eyewitnesses heard explosions and rising smoke after a drone targeted the Samarat area of Khartoum Bahri, while the army’s air defenses shot down another drone near a mosque in the Al Droshab area.

In a separate account, Anadolu Ajansı said the Sudanese army and allied forces repelled an attack by the RSF on Jabal Hashaba and Umm Arda southwest of El-Obeid, with military sources telling Anadolu that the RSF suffered losses in personnel and equipment but providing no figures.

Anadolu Ajansı further stated that neither the Sudanese army nor the RSF had issued an official statement on the clashes as of 9.15 am GMT.

Displacement and humanitarian risk

Al-Jazeera Net | West Asian tied the drone expansion to new waves of displacement, saying the fighting expanded with new areas entering the circle of battles, including areas under the army’s control in Khartoum and in the state of Nile River.

about 2,500 people (approximately 500 families) have been displaced from Kasan

Al-Jazeera NetAl-Jazeera Net

Al-Jazeera Net | West Asian reported that in Blue Nile State, fierce fighting continued for the second day in a row in Kasan locality after an attack by the Rapid Support Forces and the Sudan People’s Liberation Movement/North on the border town of Kasan with Ethiopia, during the farming season.

The same report said the International Organization for Migration announced that about 2,500 people (approximately 500 families) have been displaced from Kasan following the clashes, with most families moving within the region and others crossing into Ethiopia.

Al Jazeera Net also described ongoing displacement in West Darfur, saying the International Organization for Migration announced continued displacement from Surba locality with 5,975 people displaced due to deteriorating security.

Al-Jazeera Net | West Asian framed the broader stakes by stating that since April 2023 Sudan has been witnessing a war between the army and the RSF that has resulted in tens of thousands of deaths and the displacement and asylum of millions, while the drone campaign and siege tactics in Al-Ubayyid threaten a major humanitarian crisis.
