Sui’s 40.6M TPS Test

Sui reported that its programmable offchain tunnels reached a peak of 40,614,180 transactions per second during a live stress test at Sui Basecamp in Singapore. Sui said the test was designed to simulate high-frequency activity between AI agents, with transactions processed offchain through Sui tunnels that settle to the Sui blockchain when closed. Sui said more than 10,000 tunnels were opened on Sui mainnet during the test, with activity spanning payments, games and chat applications.

Adeniyi Abiodun, co-founder and chief product officer at Mysten Labs, framed the result around an agentic use case, saying, “Sui is built for the moment when millions of AI agents are transacting every day.” CertiK served as an independent auditor during the demonstration and was reviewing the test data, with a report expected in the coming days.

Audit and the July Benchmark

Sui said the 40,614,180 TPS peak surpassed a previous record set in July, when a similar test reached about 6.1 million TPS.

The Crypto News account of the demonstration said the result exceeded a 20 million TPS target set for the event, and it described the test as taking place on Wednesday at Sui Basecamp in Singapore.

Sui Foundation said the Oct. 7 demonstration tested infrastructure for rapid interactions between AI agents, with transactions taking place inside programmable channels that settle to Sui mainnet when closed.

Adeniyi Abiodun argued that “No market in the world needs 6 million transactions per second, let alone 40 million: people just don’t move that fast. Agents do.”

CertiK’s role centered on reviewing evidence behind the number, with the HackerNoon account saying CertiK served as the independent evaluator and would publish a performance report once it reviewed the evidence.

What the Tunnels Do

Sui described its tunnel model as offchain state and payment channels that settle to the Sui mainnet when they close, with the blockchain handling opening and final settlement. The Crypto Times said each tunnel settled to the Sui mainnet when closed and that every closed tunnel was mutually cosigned and independently verifiable on-chain. The Crypto Times also said the demonstration focused on chat, games, and payments, while the underlying design allowed other uses beyond simple transfers.

The Crypto Times reported that intermediate costs inside the tunnels approached zero because each tunnel required only two onchain transactions, one to open and one to close. Yuannan Yang, Director of Security Engineering at CertiK, said, “Providing an objective basis for these results helps build trust in the infrastructure supporting next-generation applications, both within the Sui ecosystem and beyond.”
