Daraa shelling, no casualties
Israeli forces shelled the Abidin and al-Raqad valleys in western Daraa countryside early Monday and opened machine-gun fire toward nearby areas, with no casualties reported. SANA’s correspondent said several artillery shells struck the two valleys as Israeli forces simultaneously targeted the outskirts of Jamlah village in the Yarmouk Basin. Israeli forces also opened fire from one of their positions along the 1974 disengagement line toward the outskirts of Abidin town, the correspondent added.
SANA said the latest attack came a day after Israeli occupation forces fired several artillery shells at the forest near Bir Ajam village and the vicinity of al-Rafid town in Quneitra countryside. The attacks came as Israeli forces continued to violate the 1974 Disengagement Agreement through repeated incursions into southern Syria, raids on civilian homes, arrests, land bulldozing, shelling and other attacks.

Quneitra incursions near UN
Israeli occupation forces continued their movements and field military incursions in various areas of southern Syria, with the provinces of Quneitra and Daraa witnessing artillery shelling, house searches, and temporary military checkpoints. A Syria Now reporter said an Israeli occupation army patrol entered, on Tuesday morning, the western district of the town of al-Refid in the Quneitra countryside near a United Nations monitoring point (UNFICYP). The reporter said the patrol searched several civilian homes and then withdrew without any arrests.
Al Jazeera’s reporter Muntasir Abu Nabut said the incursion occurred very close to the UN peacekeeping monitoring points and described it as a new, systematic Israeli policy to strike the sources of livelihood of people who mainly rely on farming and herding sheep. The same report said more than 50 Syrians remain detained on occupied territories since December, in addition to dozens more who were arrested and later released.

Buffer zone, legal disputes
Israeli escalation in southern Syria continued after Tel Aviv announced the end of the 1974 disengagement agreement following political changes and the fall of the previous regime in December 2024. TRT World said Israel expanded its occupation of Syrian territory, seized the buffer zone and declared the 1974 Separation of Forces Agreement between the two sides collapsed. The same TRT World account said the agreement established a buffer zone under Syrian sovereignty to separate Syrian and Israeli forces, with the UN Disengagement Observer Force (UNDOF) tasked with monitoring its implementation.
Damascus demanded the Israeli occupation leave its lands, confirming that all measures it takes are invalid and have no legal consequence under international law, and called on the international community to assume its responsibilities and compel Israel to fully withdraw from southern Syria. The Al-Jazeera Net report said Syria continues to demand the Israeli occupation leave its lands, and it framed the ongoing operations as part of Israeli military escalation in southern Syria.
