Long Island rally

President Donald Trump spoke for more than an hour at a GOP rally in Uniondale, at the David S. Mack Center for Training and Intelligence, bashing Democratic Gov. Kathy Hochul and touting his administration while praising Nassau County Executive Bruce Blakeman as “a friend of mine for a long time.”

“We’ve got to get Bruce in there,” Trump said

Trump left the stage after speaking for more than an hour, then went back on Marine One bound to one of his residences in Bedminster, NJ, as Assemb. Michaelle Solages called the event “a campaign rally on taxpayer dollars.”

At the Nassau County Police Academy in Garden City, Trump and top Department of Justice officials announced new crime statistics and denounced New York’s new immigration law during an afternoon rally on Long Island, with Trump saying, “We have to get Bruce into office.”

Trump also tied his crime message to immigration enforcement, while Blakeman told the crowd, “Thank you President Trump, and God bless you for everything you do! Keep going!”

Strait of Hormuz

About 30 minutes into his speech, Trump turned to global politics and said, “After we finish defeating Iran, which is being badly defeated, pretty soon I'll be declaring the Hormuz straight a territory of the United States.”

Trump added, “We cannot have Iran have a nuclear weapon,” and he also addressed gas prices amid the war, saying, “When you have to pay your $4 a gallon, I'll never apologize, I did the right thing.”

In the same rally coverage, Blakeman defended his work with U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement by saying, “Kathy Hochul, where do you want those guns? What neighborhood do you want to destroy?”

Hochul’s campaign spokesperson Ryan Radulovacki responded that the governor “has invested billions of dollars in public safety to protect New Yorkers,” while criticizing Blakeman for bringing Trump to the county where, she said, violent crime reached “decade highs.”

DOJ politicization and stakes

Less than a week after Senate Republicans confirmed him as U.S. attorney general, Todd Blanche spoke at a political rally on Long Island and praised Nassau County Executive Bruce Blakeman while flanked by officers at the Nassau County Police Academy in Garden City.

“another break from the DOJ’s longstanding norms that the attorney general maintains strict neutrality”

Democracy Docket described the moment as “another break from the DOJ’s longstanding norms that the attorney general maintains strict neutrality,” and it quoted Blanche saying, “We just heard from our great Nassau County Executive Bruce Blakeman, who is doing everything we need him to do to back the blue.”

The rally also fed into a broader dispute over law enforcement and immigration, with the Hochul campaign saying Blakeman’s ties to ICE were tied to higher fuel and consumer prices caused by the Iran War and tariffs.

In a separate policy fight tied to the same DOJ leadership, Rep. Nicole Malliotakis, R-N.Y., wrote to Attorney General Todd Blanche asking for help shutting New York City heroin injection centers, telling Fox News Digital that the centers “operat[e] in clear violation of federal law under Title 21 of the United States Code Section 856.”
