Anadolu Agency (English), on Gaza, 23 October 2026

Anadolu names Israel as the killer in its headline and throughout, uses the word killed, and carries the cumulative toll of more than 74,000 Palestinians. One phrase works the other way: it describes homes Israeli occupation forces demolished as "evacuated by Palestinians", turning forced displacement from an area the same article says is occupied by Israel into something the residents did themselves.

What we found

  1. Uses the occupation's words

    Serious

“the demolition of homes evacuated by Palestinians”

    What the words do
The words "evacuated by Palestinians" put the residents in the active role and leave Israeli occupation forces out of the departure altogether, while the demolition itself is left with no actor.
What a reader comes away believing
That Palestinians left these homes of their own accord and only the empty buildings were then knocked down.
    What is actually the case
The article's own account places these homes east of the Yellow Line, in what it calls areas occupied by the Israeli army, where Palestinians are not permitted to remain, and it reports Israeli military vehicles moving the line into inhabited areas overnight. People driven out under threat of a military line are expelled, not evacuated.

    How we know

    • Elsewhere in the article“separates areas where Palestinians are permitted to remain in the west from areas occupied by the Israeli army in the east”

    What is missing

The article says ceasefire violations "continue unabated" but gives no figure for how many Palestinians Israeli attacks have killed since the October 2025 ceasefire, a number Anadolu itself published the previous day (1,538 killed, 5,498 injured) and which Haaretz also reported as at least 1,500.

3 Palestinians killed, others injured in fresh Israeli attacks on Gaza

Three Palestinians were killed and others injured in Israeli strikes in the Gaza Strip on Friday as violations of the October 2025 ceasefire continue unabated. Two Palestinians were killed in an Israeli strike targeting a motorcycle in the al-Nasr neighborhood, west of Gaza City, medical sources told Anadolu. In a separate incident, the sources said several Palestinians were wounded in a strike on Gaza City’s al-Rimal neighborhood. On Friday morning, another Palestinian was killed and others injured when a drone targeted a bicycle on al-Qubba Street in the al-Mawasi area, west of Khan Younis in southern Gaza, a medical source and local sources told Anadolu. Meanwhile, the Israeli army expanded the areas under its control east of al-Masdar village in central Gaza. Local sources said the army extended its control east of the village by moving the concrete blocks marking the so-called “Yellow Line” into areas beyond its existing zone of control. Residents were surprised to find the blocks among their homes near the Ibn Zaydoun intersection east of the village, as the army moved them about 500 meters overnight, the sources added. For about a week, eastern areas of the central governorate have seen intensive movements by Israeli military vehicles along the Yellow Line, accompanied by the leveling of agricultural land and , according to the sources. The “Yellow Line, established under the ceasefire understandings, separates areas where Palestinians are permitted to remain in the west from areas occupied by the Israeli army in the east. In northern Gaza, the Israeli army carried out two demolitions of homes and structures in areas where its forces are deployed in the Shujaiya and al-Tuffah neighborhoods east of Gaza City. Since October 2023, the Israeli army has killed more than 74,000 Palestinians and injured over 175,000 others in Gaza, while around 90% of the enclave’s civilian infrastructure has been destroyed.
