Anadolu Agency (English), on Gaza, 22 October 2026

Anadolu names Israel as the actor in every killing it reports, uses the word killed rather than any softer term, and sets the day's deaths against the ceasefire toll and the cumulative figure of more than 74,000 Palestinians killed. The only slip in its own voice is calling bombed homes "evacuated", which obscures that their residents were driven out. It also leaves out two details other outlets carried the same day: the girl's name and Gaza's own Interior Ministry account of who was in the Tel al-Hawa vehicle.

What we found

  1. Uses the occupation's words

    Minor

    “two evacuated homes”

    What the words do
Anadolu writes in its own voice that the homes struck were "evacuated", a word that makes the emptying of them sound like an orderly safety measure.
What a reader comes away believing
A reader takes it that the residents had left in an organised evacuation, so nothing much was lost when the homes were hit.
    What is actually the case
The article itself reports that Palestinians in Gaza City are living in tents and in schools after being driven from their homes, which is expulsion, not evacuation.

    How we know

    • Elsewhere in the article“a school sheltering displaced Palestinians”

    Show it in the article

“an evacuated house previously damaged by Israeli bombardment”

    What the words do
The same word is applied to a house Anadolu says Israel had already bombed, pairing the bombing with a term that implies the occupants left of their own accord.
What a reader comes away believing
A reader believes the house stood empty for neutral reasons, rather than because Israeli bombardment and displacement orders emptied it.
    What is actually the case
The article reports Israeli military vehicles firing on homes and tents and artillery shelling schools where the displaced shelter, which is how these homes were emptied.

    What is missing

Anadolu calls the vehicle struck in Tel al-Hawa a "civilian vehicle" and does not report that Gaza's own Hamas-led Interior Ministry said the men hit were police officers from the drug control department returning from an assignment. Without this a reader believes the identity of the dead is settled and uncontested.

    How we know

    • Al-Monitor reported“The Hamas-led Interior Ministry in Gaza said an Israeli airstrike killed a non-commissioned officer and wounded another officer from the drug control police department after hitting their vehicle while returning from an assignment in Tel al-Hawa neighborhood.”Israeli fire kills four people in Gaza, medics say (opens in a new tab)

The girl shot in the head in Jabalia had been named in reporting the same day. Anadolu gives her only as "a Palestinian girl", leaving a reader with a number rather than a person.

Israeli attacks kill 4 Palestinians, including girl, in Gaza amid ceasefire violations

Israeli strikes and gunfire across the Gaza Strip killed four Palestinians, including a girl, and injured more than 19 others on Thursday amid continued violations of an effective ceasefire agreement, medics said. In the latest attack, a Palestinian was killed when an Israeli drone struck an electric bicycle west of the Nuseirat refugee camp in the central Gaza Strip, a medical source said. Another Palestinian was killed and others were injured, one seriously, when an Israeli drone struck a civilian vehicle in the Tel al-Hawa neighborhood southwest of Gaza City, the source said. In the northern Gaza Strip, Israeli forces shot and killed a Palestinian girl in the head in Jabalia, a medical source told Anadolu. In southern Gaza, another Palestinian was killed and two others were injured when an Israeli drone struck a motorcycle in Khan Younis, the source said. Four members of a displaced family were also injured when Israeli artillery fire hit a school sheltering displaced Palestinians in the city. A medical source at Nasser Hospital said a man, his wife, and their two children arrived with varying injuries after the shelling targeted Mustafa Hafez School. An Israeli artillery shell struck a tent sheltering the displaced family in the school courtyard, according to local sources. Separately, 13 Palestinians were injured in an Israeli strike targeting a gathering in the Ard al-Shanti area north of Gaza City, the Palestinian Red Crescent Society said in a statement. Israeli military vehicles also opened heavy fire toward homes and tents sheltering displaced people east of Hamad City in Khan Younis, witnesses said. In Gaza City, the Israeli army struck in separate attacks early Thursday. An Israeli helicopter struck an empty apartment in the Rimal neighborhood, while a drone targeted in the Nasr neighborhood, according to witnesses. Meanwhile, the Israeli army continued blowing up residential buildings in the Tuffah and Shujaiya neighborhoods in eastern Gaza City. Local residents said two powerful explosions from demolition operations were heard overnight and early Thursday. Israeli artillery also shelled the area around the Al-Sanafour junction east of Tuffah amid heavy gunfire from military vehicles deployed nearby. The attacks came amid daily Israeli violations of the ceasefire agreement in effect since Oct. 10, 2025, which had killed 1,538 Palestinians and injured 5,498 others, according to Gaza’s Health Ministry. Since October 2023, Israel has killed more than 74,000 Palestinians and injured over 175,000 others in Gaza, while around 90% of the enclave’s civilian infrastructure has been destroyed.

What it gets right

  • “Israeli forces shot and killed a Palestinian girl in the head in Jabalia”

It names who fired, says plainly that she was killed, and does not hide the act behind a passive phrase or an unexplained incident.

  • “Israeli attacks kill 4 Palestinians, including girl, in Gaza amid ceasefire violations”

The headline names the actor and the killing, matching what the body reports, and does not soften the deaths.

  • “Since October 2023, Israel has killed more than 74,000 Palestinians and injured over 175,000 others in Gaza”

It sets the day's four deaths against the scale of Israel's killing, so a reader is not left thinking this is an isolated incident.
