The article never says that Israeli occupation forces arrived at Abu Falah during the attack and fired tear gas into the Palestinian fields. Without it, a reader believes the settlers acted alone and the occupation forces played no part in the event.

Sky News names the masked Israeli settlers as the attackers and reports the beating of Heidi Levine in detail, but it never tells its reader that the West Bank is occupied or that the settlements are illegal, though its own earlier reports said both. It leaves out the part Israeli occupation forces played at Abu Falah, where they fired tear gas into the Palestinian fields. The injured Palestinians are reduced to 'several people', with no number and no names.

  1. Hedges the documented record

    Serious

“a village's harvest in the West Bank”

    Why this matters
Sky places the attack 'in the West Bank' and never once calls it the occupied West Bank, nor says the settlers come from settlements that are illegal under international law.
    The impression it gives
A reader takes the West Bank as ordinary territory and the settlers as residents in a local dispute over land, with no settled legal status at stake.
    The context
The ICJ found the occupation unlawful and the settlements illegal. The BBC's report of the same attack says so plainly, and Sky's own earlier reports called it the occupied West Bank and the settlements illegal.

“unfortunate that the visit was not coordinated with the IDF (Israel Defence Forces) in advance”

    Why this matters
Sky prints Gideon Saar's complaint that the diplomats did not coordinate with the Israeli military. Nowhere does the article tell the reader that this military is an occupying force whose presence the ICJ has ruled unlawful.
    The impression it gives
A reader takes Israeli military permission as the normal rule for foreign diplomats visiting a Palestinian village, and reads the diplomats as partly at fault.
    The context
The village lies in occupied territory, and the ICJ found the occupation unlawful. Reuters reported Belgium's minister calling Israel 'the occupying power'. Sky gives none of this.

    Written straight

Dozens of masked Israeli settlers attacked Palestinians harvesting olives in Abu Falah in the occupied West Bank, where all Israeli settlements are illegal under international law.

    Minor

“left several people injured including an American photographer”

    Why this matters
Sky counts the injured only as 'several people' and names only the American photographer. No injured Palestinian from Abu Falah is named or quoted.
    The impression it gives
A reader comes away thinking the main victim was the US journalist and that only a handful of others were hurt.
    The context
A local official told the BBC the attack injured 12 Palestinians, four of them dual Palestinian American citizens. The BBC also named one of the injured villagers, Yaser AlKam.
