The Israeli military early on Sunday announced that the government had approved its recommendation to ban "the entry and exit of Palestinian workers" throughout the West Bank and to close all land crossings on Israel's Election Day, effectively imposing a general closure on the West Bank on Tuesday.

About this analysis

Haaretz reports that the Israeli military announced the government had approved its recommendation to bar Palestinian workers and close all land crossings on Israel's Election Day, which amounts to a general closure of the West Bank on Tuesday. The captured text is mostly page furniture around a single news sentence. That sentence names who decided and who carries out the closure, and nothing in it misleads.

What it gets right

  • “The Israeli military early on Sunday announced that the government had approved its recommendation”

Haaretz names both actors: the military that recommended and announced the closure, and the government that approved it. The closure is not written as something that simply happens.

  • “effectively imposing a general closure on the West Bank on Tuesday”

Haaretz says plainly what the worker ban and crossing closures add up to: a closure of the whole West Bank on Palestinians. It does not soften this into a travel adjustment for election security.
