Alabama runoff victory

Barry Moore won Alabama’s Republican Senate runoff on Tuesday after more than $12 million in pro-crypto PAC support helped carry his campaign into the November general election.

The result gives crypto advocates another test case before larger House and Senate fights ahead, with Moore set to face Democrat Everett Wess in November.

Unofficial results from the Alabama Secretary of State showed Moore with 55.80% of the vote, compared with 44.20% for Jared Hudson, and all 67 counties had reported results as of late Tuesday.

Cointelegraph reported that Fairshake and its affiliates may have spent more than $40 million across several US states to support what it considers “pro-crypto” candidates for the next session of Congress.

Fairshake spokesman Geoff Vetter said “our biggest spend of the cycle” produced another pro-innovation Senate candidate as the Alabama race became a focal point for crypto political spending.

Spending trail and ratings

Defend American Jobs, a Republican super PAC tied to Fairshake, spent heavily to support Moore, with the group reporting $7.4 million in media spending before the May 20 primary and another $4.7 million before the runoff.

Federal Election Commission records list Defend American Jobs as an active independent expenditure-only super PAC, and the committee cannot coordinate directly with campaigns but can spend on media and ads.

Stand With Crypto rated Moore as strongly supportive of crypto policy, while Hudson was rated neutral, based on public statements and Moore’s voting records while representing Alabama’s 1st Congressional district.

Hudson publicly acknowledged that “Big Crypto” did not back his campaign, but he has supported the crypto market structure bill under Senate review.

Cointelegraph also said Fairshake and allied groups raised $193 million from Ripple, Coinbase, a16z, Gemini, Crypto.com, Kraken, and others ahead of the 2026 midterms.

What’s at stake next

The Alabama race is framed as part of a broader effort by crypto-aligned committees, with the coverage saying related PACs have also spent in California and are watching races in Maryland and New York.

Following Tuesday’s vote in Alabama, the PACs will also have stakes in Maryland and New York later this month, backing Democrats Adrian Boafo and Ritchie Torres with about $5 million and $500,000 in media buys for House seats, respectively.

The Digital Asset Market CLARITY (CLARITY) Act passed the House in July 2025 but has stalled in the Senate, and the Senate Agriculture Committee advanced its version of the bill in January.

Republicans hold narrow majorities in both chambers, while Democrats are trying to win back control in 2027, and the Senate math matters for digital asset bills.

The coverage also says Fairshake reported holding a $193 million war chest as of January, setting the stage for significant potential influence in this year's US House and Senate races.
