Trump’s AI Force plan
U.S. President Donald Trump said he will create an “AI Force” and appoint an “AI czar,” posting the plan on Truth Social as he argued he would not hinder or stifle the growth of the AI industry.
In the same post, Trump wrote, “For this purpose, I am forming the AI Force, much like I did Space Force, which has been a tremendous SUCCESS, in my First Term,” and he added, “To that end, I will be announcing, in the near future, the AI ‘Czar’ — Only High I.Q. individuals need apply!”

The announcement came as Politico reported that Trump’s Truth Social post surprised technology companies because “most company representatives were not previously informed about the plan or its details.”
Politico also quoted technology sector officials saying that “no one knew what the initiative would entail,” while another noted that “most sector representatives were not asked for their opinions on this matter.”
Debate over risks and oversight
The plan landed amid intensifying debate in Washington over AI risks, with Ajil reporting that discussions about potential dangers were intensifying and citing estimates that the probability of AI wiping out humanity within ten years could be about 10%.
Ajil also cited a poll conducted by Public First for Politico showing that 78% of Americans believe the extinction of humanity due to AI is possible.

Trump, however, dismissed the concerns, writing, “We will not in any way hinder or stifle the Growth of this incredible Industry,” and saying his administration would look for harmful uses through the “already existing Criminal and Civil Justice System.”
Hindustan Times similarly reported that Trump called slowdown concerns a hoax and said the only guardrail AI needs is a “STRONG AND SMART (High IQ!) PRESIDENT,” while also repeating that “We will also be looking for BAD, and we can do that, very easily, with our already existing Criminal and Civil Justice System.”
What happens next
Several outlets said Trump did not provide details on how the AI Force or AI czar would be structured, including Ajil’s account that the initiative’s specifics were unclear to most sector representatives.
Cointelegraph reported Trump did not say whether the AI Force would be a military command, a civilian agency or a department, and it added that White House officials did not respond to an email seeking clarification.
India Today said the announcement comes ahead of Trump’s scheduled meeting with Chinese President Xi Jinping on Thursday, while also noting that U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent is scheduled to meet Chinese Vice Premier He Lifeng on Sunday at JPMorgan Chase's headquarters in New York.
In the same context of U.S.-China competition, India Today reported that Trump’s move was framed around supporting AI growth while using existing criminal and civil justice systems to address potential wrongdoing, and it cited Jacob Coxon saying people developing AI “seriously believe the technology could pose an existential threat within the decade.”
