Dubai declared 10 days of official mourning after the death of Sheikh Ahmed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, the younger brother of Dubai Ruler Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum.

The Dubai Ruler’s Court mourned the passing of Sheikh Ahmed and announced the mourning period with flags flown at half-mast starting Monday.
Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum posted on X, writing, “May Allah have mercy on Sheikh Ahmed bin Rashid Al Maktoum. May Allah have mercy on you, my brother.”
Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defence, also mourned his uncle and shared a prayer asking Allah to grant mercy and forgiveness.
Condolences from UAE leaders
UAE President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan mourned Sheikh Ahmed bin Rashid Al Maktoum and offered condolences to Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid on the passing of his brother. Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan wrote on X, “I extend my sincere condolences to Mohammed bin Rashid on the passing of his brother Sheikh Ahmed bin Rashid Al Maktoum.”
Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum also bid his brother farewell in a message that said, “You are gone from our sight, Ahmed, but never from our prayers or our hearts,” and he prayed for patience and solace. Oman Observer reported that Sheikh Ahmed died on Monday at the age of 76, and it said flags would be flown at half-mast across Dubai throughout the mourning period.

The Dubai government and multiple outlets tied Sheikh Ahmed bin Rashid Al Maktoum’s public roles to Dubai’s security and sports, including his service as deputy head of Dubai’s police and public security.

AzerNews said Sheikh Ahmed graduated from the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst in Britain and described his sports legacy as spanning football, horse racing and water sports.
Oman Observer stated that Sheikh Ahmed was born in Bur Dubai on July 12, 1950, and it said he served as Deputy Chairman of Dubai Police and Public Security and headed A.R.M. Holding, Dubai Real Estate Centre and Al Wasl Sports Club.
The Express Tribune said Dubai declared an official 10-day mourning period beginning on Monday, with flags to be flown at half-mast across the Emirate for the duration of mourning.
