Fairshake targets Brown
Fairshake plans to spend $30 million to oppose Democratic Ohio Senate candidate Sherrod Brown as he challenges Republican Sen. Jon Husted, with the move framed as a response to the Senate’s failure to advance the Clarity Act.
Fairshake spokesperson Geoff Vetter confirmed the $30 million commitment to oppose Brown, and Vetter said the group expected to announce additional expenditures before the midterm elections on Nov. 3.
Fairshake told The New York Times it was starting a planned $30 million advertising campaign against Brown, after the industry’s main super PAC spent $41 million on advertising in 2024 to target Brown.
Brown spent nearly two decades representing Ohio before being ousted in 2024.
The New York Times said Fairshake’s push came after Democrats last week blocked the Clarity Act, which would have shielded the crypto industry from a regulatory crackdown under a future Democratic administration.
Clarity Act vote backdrop
The Clarity Act stalled in the Senate after a procedural vote failed, with the TiffinOhio.net account saying senators voted 49-50 against invoking cloture on the motion to proceed to the CLARITY Act.
TiffinOhio.net said the legislation needed 60 votes to advance, and it said every Democrat who voted opposed moving forward with the bill.
The Hill said the Clarity Act failed to clear a procedural hurdle on the Senate floor last week, with every Democrat and several Republicans blocking the measure.

Fairshake’s spending plan follows its prior effort against Brown, with CoinDesk saying Fairshake’s $30 million commitment echoed the $40 million the same political action committee devoted to defeating Brown two years ago. Fairshake still has more than $90 million on-hand for the final weeks before the general elections, and PAC spokesman Geoff Vetter confirmed the $30 million decision. Brown’s campaign manager Patrick Eisenhauer told TiffinOhio.net that "Jon Husted's for sale and the billionaires and corporations pouring millions into this race know it."
Crypto PACs spent $40M to defeat Brown in 2024, and Defend American Jobs spent about $40.1 million supporting Bernie Moreno in Ohio. Fairshake is preparing a $30 million campaign against Brown and the spending marks Fairshake’s biggest midterm push yet, with the group planning to begin the campaign Tuesday with advertising and direct mail targeting Brown.
