General Motors is rolling out a redesigned in-vehicle software experience for the 2027 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 and 2027 GMC Sierra 1500 that keeps Apple CarPlay and Android Auto visible alongside native GM controls. The Verge describes the change as “picture-in-picture phone projection,” with CarPlay or Android Auto shown in a large contextual card rather than taking over the entire display. GM’s approach is designed to let drivers open phone projection and then return to GM’s split-screen home view while keeping access to functions such as trailering information and off-road settings.
