Gaza City strike
An Israeli airstrike hit a crowd of people near the municipal public park in Gaza City, killing at least two Palestinians and wounding several others, according to medical sources in Gaza.
Haaretz quoted U.S. HAmbassador to Israel Mike Huckabee saying, "We have a very strong engagement with the IDF as well as Palestinian Police forces to act on behalf of U.S. citizens," as he described steps taken after violence in the West Bank village of Qusra.
The same Haaretz update said the Israeli military did not immediately comment on the Gaza City incident, while medics said two people were killed and several others wounded when the strike occurred.H
In a separate thread of reporting, VOV World said Israel continued strikes in the Gaza Strip and that two separate Israeli airstrikes in Gaza City killed two more people, while an Israeli airstrike in Khan Younis killed three members of one family.
Diplomacy and pressure
Haaretz reported that U.S. HTreasury Secretary Scott Bessent said Washington is likely to impose new secondary sanctions on Iran every week, adding that the next stage could involve cutting an institution off entirely from the dollar-based financial system if it continues to handle Iranian money.
Bessent said, "You're going to see a lot more of these every week," ahead of a Group of 20 finance leaders meeting in Asheville, North Carolina, and he described starting with the banks and telling them it was "not OK to have Iranian money and to aid the regime."
The Haaretz update also said the European Union would continue to work with the United States and other G7 and international partners to keep up pressure on Iran, issuing a statement to coincide with this week's G20 meeting in the United States.H
In parallel, VOV World said Syria and Israel held high-level, US-mediated talks in Jordan on Sunday aimed at easing tensions following recent Israeli strikes on Syrian territory, with Syria's state news agency SANA reporting the talks.
Regional spillover
Beyond Gaza, VOV World said Israel continued attacks in southern Lebanon, with the Israeli military carrying out attacks from Friday night to Saturday morning and demolishing homes in large areas under its control. VOV World reported that the attacks targeted the areas of Mansouri and Nabatieh Al-Fawqa, near the strategic Ali Taher hill, as well as Kfar Shuba, and that the Israeli military carried out demolitions at at least 10 locations in southern Lebanon.
Al-Manar TV Lebanon said Israeli artillery shelling targeted the outskirts of Baraachit and the outskirts of the town of Touline towards Wadi al-Hujair, and it also said artillery shelling targeted the town of Mansouri. In the same Al-Manar account, its correspondent reported movement of Israeli enemy vehicles in the town of Houla coinciding with artillery shelling and a machine-gun sweeping operation, and it said burning a number of houses occurred in Houla.
