Abbas meets Arab League

Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas met on Thursday in Amman with the Secretary-General of the Arab League to discuss “the latest political and field developments in the Palestinian territories” and ways to strengthen Arab coordination in support of the Palestinian cause. The meeting addressed preparations for upcoming Arab meetings and efforts to mobilize Arab and international support to confront challenges facing Palestinian national rights, including “ending the humanitarian crisis in the Gaza Strip” and securing an Israeli withdrawal from Gaza.

The two sides also discussed halting settlement expansion, settler violence, and the release of Palestinian tax revenues withheld by Israel, while Abbas praised the Arab League’s longstanding role in supporting the Palestinian cause. The Arab League Secretary-General reaffirmed the League’s full support for the State of Palestine and stressed continued coordination with Arab countries and the international community to advance efforts toward “a just and comprehensive peace based on international legitimacy.”

Bulgaria backs UN 2803

In Sofia, Ahmad Majdalani, a member of the PLO Executive Committee and President Mahmoud Abbas’s envoy, held official meetings with Bulgarian President Iliana Iotova at the Presidential Palace and with Bulgarian Prime Minister Rumen Radev at the Council of Ministers’ headquarters. Majdalani told Bulgarian officials about the reform process being implemented by the Palestinian government and the importance of Bulgaria’s active role within the European Union to support the Palestinian government and create conditions for legislative elections scheduled for November 28.

Prime Minister Radev said Bulgaria is following with concern the evolution of the situation in the Gaza Strip and the West Bank and will continue to support efforts aimed at stopping the military operations in the region. Radev also emphasized that Bulgaria supports the practical implementation of United Nations Security Council Resolution 2803 and the Gaza Comprehensive Plan, which he said pave the way for the resumption of the political process with the participation of the European Union.

Elections and EU role

Majdalani reaffirmed the Palestinian Authority’s support for the peace process through the implementation of UN Security Council resolutions, notably Resolution 2803, which provides for the disarmament of Hamas and the withdrawal of Israeli forces from the Gaza Strip. He also highlighted the Palestinian Authority’s preparations for the legislative elections scheduled for November 2026, calling them crucial for the legitimacy of institutions and for strengthening the unity of the Palestinian people.

In Bulgaria, Radev reiterated that only sustained mobilization of the entire international community will enable the establishment of a just and lasting peace based on a two-state solution, guaranteeing the security of both the State of Palestine and the State of Israel. The WAFA report said Radev stressed that Bulgaria supports the Comprehensive Gaza Plan and that the European Union is actively participating in the pathway toward a sustainable peaceful solution, while Majdalani called for broad participation of international observers in monitoring the elections.
