Bettany told the crowd, “It's been an enormous joy playing the Vision as he's evolved over the years,” describing Vision as “an Avenger, a father, a partner to Wanda,” and saying the character “made the ultimate sacrifice.”

The trailer also spotlights Ultron’s return, with Spader adding, “Everyone knows Ultron has long been fascinated by humanity.”

Ultron in Human Form

A.V. Club said the first VisionQuest trailer “brings back Ultron,” and it frames Ultron’s appearance in human form as part of the series’ central tension.

IGN described the trailer as showing “James Spader's Ultron Shown in Human Form,” and it quotes Bettany saying, “This Vision is beginning to ask a more complicated question: What, or perhaps who, is he?”

CNET tied the VisionQuest trailer to the broader D23 Marvel slate, noting that the X-Men cast reveal included Sadie Sink as Jean Grey and that the X-Men film is scheduled to hit theaters on May 5, 2028.

Mashable reported that VisionQuest will serve as the final installment in what Kevin Feige called the “Wanda trilogy,” following WandaVision and Agatha All Along, and it said the series premieres on Oct. 14.

Identity, Stakes, and Dates

Multiple outlets tied VisionQuest to the character’s search for identity after WandaVision, with Good Morning America saying the show will see Paul Bettany return as android Avenger Vision and James Spader appear as Ultron.

Good Morning America also quoted Bettany from New York Comic Con, saying, “We meet Vision at a point where he is trying to figure out who he is and what he's for,” and it described the series as the final part of the trilogy that began with 2021’s WandaVision and continued with 2024’s Agatha All Along.

The Verge reported that at D23, when asked about a potential sequel to The Simpsons: Hit & Run, Matt Groening replied, “I think the original game is coming back in some form,” before Matt Selman added, “or not.”

The Verge also placed VisionQuest in the event’s release calendar, saying the first look at the VisionQuest TV show for Disney Plus came at D23 and that it is set for release in March of 2028.
