Pressure and sanctions intensify
Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian said U.S. pressure on Iran has reached a critical and dangerous stage, speaking in India ahead of the BRICS summit.

TRT World reported that last month the U.S. launched Operation Economic Outcast, described as “unprecedented” curbs meant to choke off “every remaining economic lifeline” sustaining the Iranian government six months into the US-Israeli war against Tehran.
The TRT World account also said Iran announced the closure of the Strait of Hormuz to navigation, and it described a June 18 memorandum of understanding to end military operations that later faltered as confrontations resumed in July with the U.S. renewing strikes inside Iran and reimposing a naval blockade on Iranian ports.
No talks without conditions
Ebrahim Azizi, head of the Iranian Parliament’s National Security Committee, said it would be pointless to engage in talks with the United States as long as Washington does not accept Tehran’s conditions.
Azizi stated, "Until the American side accepts all of Iran’s conditions, dialogue and negotiation make no sense," and he said, "Until the American side accepts all of Iran’s conditions, dialogue and negotiation make no sense," in remarks carried by multiple outlets.
The TRT عربي report said Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Seyed Ismail Kaqai (Bakayi) announced a regional meeting hosted by the Sultanate of Oman on September 14 with Iran, Iraq, and the other Gulf littoral states to discuss outcomes of Iranian-Omani talks on identifying safe passages for commercial vessels in the Strait of Hormuz.
TRT عربي also said Bakayi stressed that Tehran is working to ensure security in the strait, adding that vessel safety cannot be guaranteed as long as what he described as the 'naval blockade and American interventions' continue.
BRICS summit amid maritime risks
Pezeshkian arrived in New Delhi on September 11 to join BRICS leaders for a summit expected to feature the escalating Middle East conflict on the agenda, according to Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty.

RFE/RL reported that the two-day BRICS Leaders' Summit begins on September 12 and is expected to bring together Russian President Vladimir Putin and Chinese President Xi Jinping, among other leaders.
RFE/RL also tied the regional crisis to energy chokepoints, saying oil prices surged to a four-month high on September 11 as threats to the Strait of Hormuz and the Bab al-Mandeb Strait raised fears of prolonged supply disruptions.
In the same account, Reuters reporting said Houthi forces reached the strategic island of Perim, also known as Mayyun, in the Bab al-Mandab Strait, while Reuters reported that forces loyal to Yemen's internationally recognized government had withdrawn from Perim.
