Mahershala Ali and Bassam Tariq

At TIFF 2026, Mahershala Ali walked the red carpet ahead of the world premiere of Your Mother Your Mother Your Mother, an action thriller exploring faith, family and motherhood. Ali told Reuters from the red carpet that filmmaker Bassam Tariq wrote a “really three-dimensional character,” and Tariq said it was “miraculous” that the two finally got to work together.

The film’s title references an Islamic hadith signifying the importance of motherhood, and Reuters reported that John Cho plays an Army veteran turned Texas pastor while Giancarlo Esposito and Tramell Tillman play supporting roles. Cho said his fans would be surprised by his character’s look, and the Reuters report added that the film will be released in U.S. theaters on September 25 by Amazon MGM Studios.
