The BBC reported that the Sudanese army denied carrying out the attack on Friday evening in El-Daein, a western city controlled by its rivals, the Rapid Support Forces (RSF).

The ionnews report said the RSF attack occurred in the evening and left 113 injured, completely destroying the upper floor of the emergency department and causing significant damage to medical equipment.

ionnews also said several victims were still believed to be trapped beneath the rubble as search and rescue operations continued, while Mohamed Idris Khater, head of the civil administration of eastern Darfur, spoke of more than 90 injured and said the strike was "direct targeting of a vital civilian infrastructure."

RSF, army denials, UN concern

The RSF denounced the hospital attack as a "flagrant violation of international humanitarian law" and called for an independent international investigation, while the Sudanese Armed Forces did not immediately respond to accusations holding them responsible, according to ionnews.

In a statement carried by the BBC, the RSF claimed an army drone struck El-Daein Hospital and said the strike "completely destroyed the hospital’s top floor" and destroyed vital medical equipment.

The BBC also reported that Tedros urged the warring parties to end the conflict that began nearly three years ago and added, "Health care should never be a target. Peace is the best remedy."

An OCHA post on X, cited by ionnews, said it was "deeply concerned" by the attack and called for the protection of civilians and health personnel as search and rescue continued.

Anadolu Ajansı added that RSF drones struck the Um Bayada market in the locality, triggering a massive fire that destroyed the market and left nearly 50 families without their sole source of income, and it urged an immediate halt to operations targeting civilians and civilian objects.

Al-Jazeera Net reported that UN Secretary-General spokesperson Stephane Dujarric called on all parties in Sudan to focus on pushing dialogue to end the war, while Dujarric said Pekka Haavisto is in contact with member states with influence over the warring parties.

Al-Jazeera Net also said the Rapid Support Forces have continued to bombard Al-Obeid with drones for more than a week, resulting in dozens of casualties and the destruction of civilian facilities, and it described Al-Obeid as the largest urban center in the Kordofan region with residents exceeding 600,000.
