Ship struck near Qeshm
An attack on an Iranian commercial ship near Qeshm Island in the Strait of Hormuz killed one person and injured three others, according to Iran’s state broadcaster IRIB.

The bombing occurred when the Iranian vessel was sailing near Hengam Island and the coast of Shib Deraz, on Qeshm Island, and caused one death and left three others injured, Al Jazeera reported.
The BBC reported that the governor of Qeshm told Iran’s state media that a commercial ship was struck around 5 a.m. today (September 13) in the vicinity of Hengam Island and the Shibdarez coast of Qeshm Island.
In parallel, the UK Maritime Trade Operations said a vessel was struck by an unknown projectile while passing through the Strait of Hormuz, with no immediate statement by the U.S. military.
IRGC rejects U.S. control
Iran’s Revolutionary Guards rejected Donald Trump’s claim that Washington controls the Strait of Hormuz, warning that US vessels approaching the strategic waterway would face a response from Iranian forces.
Col. Ali Mohammadi, the IRGC Navy’s deputy for political affairs, was quoted by Fars News Agency saying, "If that is the case, go ahead, bring one of your warships within 100 kilometers," and the BBC reported a similar line attributed to Ali Mohammadine.
The BBC also reported that Ali Mohammadine said, "Americans know that if their vessels approach, they will face the response of Iran’s fighters" and claimed that "an example of this has happened in recent days."
In the same reporting, the BBC said the UK Maritime Trade Operations urged vessels to navigate the area with caution and report any suspicious activity, while authorities examined the attack.
Oman talks and energy stakes
The attack came as Iraq participated in an Oman meeting to discuss developments in the Hormuz, with Foreign Minister Fuad Hussein discussing the closure of border crossings and the attack that targeted Saudi Arabia with Abbas Araqchi.

A statement cited by Al-Zaman said Hussein “received a phone call from his Iranian counterpart, and the bilateral relations between the two countries were discussed,” including procedures related to closing border ports and reasons for taking them.
The BBC linked the ship strike to broader concerns about energy supply, saying the report of the attack and the shutdown of the Saudi East-to-West pipeline raised concerns about further disruptions to energy supply.
In that context, the BBC reported that the pipeline had been moving four to five million barrels of oil per day and that Brent crude rose above $100 per barrel again last week.
