Siri AI arrives on iOS
Apple introduced Siri AI, “an entirely new version of Siri, powered by Apple Intelligence,” with developer testing starting “today” and a beta “later this year.”
“Apple has officially announced iOS 27”
Apple said Siri AI is “a dramatically more capable and conversational assistant” that can draw on “personal context understanding” across “messages, emails, photos, and more.”

At its Worldwide Developers Conference, Apple previewed iOS 27 and iPadOS 27 for developers, with open beta “starting next month” and public release “this fall.”
GSMArena.com said the headline feature for both iOS 27 and iPadOS 27 is Siri AI, “deeply integrated into these systems, complete with its own app,” alongside “next-gen Apple Intelligence” features.
Apple also said Siri AI can be invoked beyond “Hey Siri,” including “swipe down from the Dynamic Island to start a conversation and get an in-depth answer.”
Performance and new iOS features
GSMArena.com said iOS 27 and iPadOS 27 will bring apps that “launch 30% faster,” with new photos in a library “up to 70% faster,” and AirDrop transfers “up to 80% faster.”
The same report said Apple is adding “a slider that you can use to select how much transparency you want” as part of Liquid Glass, and that Apple updated the UI “with more uniform refraction and improved contrast.”

Apple’s press release described Siri AI’s “dedicated app for users to revisit conversations across their products,” plus “integrated tools for writing.”
GSMArena.com said VoiceOver gets “new capabilities for understanding the world around you,” including “richer image descriptions” and “Action button integration,” and that it can “even translate existing captions in other languages.”
On iPadOS 27, GSMArena.com said users can “play any set of photos and videos as a slideshow,” with options for duration, transition style, and music, and can “save it as a video to your library.”
Compatibility cuts and device limits
Multiple outlets said iPadOS 27 will drop support for older iPads, including the 8th generation iPad and the 5th generation iPad mini, with GIGAZINE stating iPadOS 27 “will no longer support the 8th generation iPad and the 5th generation iPad mini.”
“Apple's iPadOS 27 has finally arrived, and now we know which iPad models will be supported”
GIGAZINE said iPadOS 27 compatibility for iPad mini requires “only models with the A17 Pro chip and the 6th generation and later,” while the 5th generation iPad mini “will no longer be supported with iPadOS 27 and later.”
TechRadar said iOS 27 support will exclude some iPhones but keep others, noting that “the iPhone SE (2020), iPhone 11, iPhone 11 Pro, and iPhone 11 Pro Max” can run iOS 27.
TechRadar also said Siri AI support is limited, writing that “Siri AI also won't be available in the European Union (EU) or China at launch,” citing Apple’s explanation about the Digital Markets Act.
Apple’s press release set the privacy and architecture framing for Siri AI, saying it uses “Private Cloud Compute,” and that when it is handling requests, “their personal data is not stored nor made accessible to Apple or anyone else.”
