Beirut strikes, Iran response
Israeli strikes hit Beirut’s southern suburbs, including Dahiyeh and the Ghobeiry neighbourhood, and Iran warned of an “imminent” response after the attacks killed five people in southern Lebanon, according to Euronews.
Iran’s Supreme National Security Council said in a statement that “The response of the fighters of Islam is imminent,” and Lebanon’s official National News Agency reported the strikes and plumes of smoke rising over the Lebanese capital.

Euronews said the Israel Defense Forces described the strikes as “precise,” targeting a Hezbollah command centre used to coordinate what the IDF called “terrorist attacks against Israeli civilians and IDF soldiers” operating in southern Lebanon.
The same Euronews report said Iran’s state broadcaster reported that flights at airports in the west of the country had been cancelled until further notice.
Euronews also said the Israeli military struck Dahiyeh as the second wave of Israeli attacks this weekend, after Saturday’s killings across southern Lebanon included Ali Badie, the mayor of the Ar-Rihan municipality, in the Jezzine district.
Trump urges restraint, talks
US President Donald Trump urged all sides to avoid escalation after the Beirut strikes, saying the attack “should not have happened” and warning that “This could be the beginning of a long and beautiful peace — Let’s not blow it!”
NPR reported that the strike left 3 dead and 15 wounded in Dahiyeh, and it quoted Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth saying, “We are on track. It’s not a matter of if, it’s a matter of when,” about negotiations mediated by Pakistan.

NPR also said Iran’s chief negotiator Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf condemned the strike, writing on X that “[Israel's] incursion into Dahiyeh has once again shown that America either lacks the will to fulfill its commitments or the ability to do so.”
Al Jazeera reported that Lebanon’s civil defence agency said at least seven others were wounded in the Dahiyeh area, while Israel’s Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s office said the military struck “Hezbollah targets” in Dahiyeh in response to firings toward Israeli territory.
Al Jazeera added that observers warned the escalation could derail “delicate peace negotiations between the United States and Iran,” and it quoted UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres urging all parties to “show maximum restraint at this crucial moment.”
What’s at stake next
Euronews said the continuing escalation between Israel and Hezbollah also threatens to derail a potential deal between Washington and Tehran, and it described Iran’s insistence that any agreement with the United States must include a halt to Israeli strikes in Lebanon.

Euronews reported that a 60-day framework for technical discussions could lay groundwork for de-escalation in Lebanon, even though it said the agreement would not resolve the most contentious issues such as Iran’s nuclear programme or its frozen assets.
Time Magazine said Iran threatened to walk away from peace talks after Israeli strikes on Beirut, and it quoted Iran’s parliament speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf warning that “The Zionists’ aggression against Dahieh once again showed that the United States either lacks the will to implement its commitments or lacks the ability to do so.”
Time Magazine also reported that Israeli strikes on Beirut had killed three people, according to Lebanon’s health ministry, and it said Iran’s Brigadier General Mohammad Jafar Asadi warned the latest Israeli strikes “will not go unanswered.”
Al Jazeera reported that Israel issued forced displacement orders for 29 locations in southern Lebanon, including 25 in Nabatieh district and four in Sidon district, telling people there to immediately flee north of the Zahrani River.
