Grenade incident in south Lebanon
The Israeli army said an officer and a soldier were injured during military activity in southern Lebanon in what it described as an "operational incident" that occurred during the weekend during a patrol by forces in southern Lebanon. The Israeli army stated that a senior officer was seriously injured and another soldier was moderately injured, and it said the circumstances of the incident were still under investigation.
i24NEWS said the incident involved an accidental grenade explosion, and it reported that the grenade was carried in the equipment of one of the soldiers and exploded accidentally. The Times of Israel said the “operational accident” took place during army activity on Friday in southern Lebanon, and it reported that the wounded soldiers were taken to a hospital for treatment while their families were notified.

Attacks and disputed details
Al Jazeera said Israeli forces continued intensified assaults through airstrikes, artillery shelling, and bombing operations affecting various areas and towns in southern Lebanon while the injury incident remained under investigation. Al Jazeera reported that initial investigations revealed the two soldiers were injured in the town of Majdal Zun as a result of a hand grenade that was thrown during searches for suspects, as the grenade rolled and settled near them.
Al Jazeera also said the Israeli army spokesperson announced that two officers course students in the company Geffen were wounded, ranging from serious to moderate, and that they were transferred to Rambam Hospital in Haifa for treatment. The Israeli army spokesperson and the Israeli army both described the injuries as resulting from an “operational incident,” while the accounts differed on whether the grenade was a hand grenade thrown during searches or a grenade that exploded accidentally in a soldier’s equipment.

Broader war context and stakes
Al Jazeera said field sources reported Israeli warplanes carried out strikes targeting the towns of Nabatieh Al-Fouqa, Wadi Al-Salouqi, and Al-Quntara, and it said artillery shelling targeted areas including Wadi Zbaqin, Wadi al-Hujjar, Wadi Al-Salouqi, and Wadi al-Khiyam. Al Jazeera said demolition operations occurred in the towns of Beit Yaqun, Houla, Talousa, Al-Mansouri, and Aytaroun, and it said Israeli forces fired flares over the towns of Al-Mansouri and Qanin.
Al Jazeera linked the ongoing assaults to obstacles persisting to implementing the framework agreement signed between Lebanon and Israel in June, brokered by the United States, and it described the agreement as calling for security arrangements including a gradual deployment of the Lebanese army and the withdrawal of occupation forces. Al Jazeera added a figure that it said the Israeli Broadcasting Authority noted, that 159 soldiers have been killed in operational incidents since October 7, 2023.
