Retaliation Vows After Strikes
Iran’s Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf said the "era of proportionate responses" to American attacks is over and vowed a "faster, stronger, and more painful response" to any future violations of Iran’s security or interests.

Reuters said the comments came after a pause in hostilities for most of August ended and cross-border strikes resumed, with the US Central Command saying it targeted three Iranian vessels on Saturday in response to Iran’s Revolutionary Guard Corps firing ballistic missiles at two US Navy ships.
Reuters described the war as at a stalemate six months after US-Israeli strikes on Iran, noting that a preliminary ceasefire agreement reached in June collapsed and that diplomatic efforts had made little progress.
Reuters also said Tehran warned it could target American interests in neighboring countries and halt oil flows through the Strait of Hormuz, which had accounted for a fifth of global oil supplies before the war.
Economic Pressure and Reform
Reuters reported that Iran said it would intensify efforts to deal with problems caused by American sanctions hampering its economy, while a senior Iranian official warned of an "painful" response if the country is subjected to new attacks.
In a speech published on his Telegram channel, Reuters said Ghalibaf told the United States it must realize "before it is too late" that the rules of the game in the war on Iran have changed.
Reuters quoted Iranian Economy Minister Ehsan Khodadad saying Tehran intends to confront economic pressures in the United States through reforms and rejecting the idea that sanctions will push it to change course.
Reuters added that official media quoted Khodadad saying, "the responsibility for reforming the Iranian economy lies with its government and its people, not the American Treasury."
Oil Flows, Strait of Hormuz
Reuters said Iran’s ability to target American interests and halt oil flows through the Strait of Hormuz had become central to the standoff, and it described how flows have been disrupted since the US began blocking Iranian oil exports in mid-April.

Reuters reported that Iranian Oil Minister Bijan Namdar Zangeneh told state television that Kharg Island had been struck about 550 times in recent months, while work had not stopped.
Reuters said the US Central Command announced it struck three Iranian vessels, one of them off Kharg Island’s coast, after the IRGC fired ballistic missiles at two US Navy ships, and it quoted Admiral Brad Cooper saying, "Let our message be clear to the Revolutionary Guards: if you target two of our ships, we will impose a much greater economic cost on you by destroying three of your vessels."
Al-Jazirah Net said Ghalibaf warned Iran would defeat the United States in the economic war just as it defeated it in the military and diplomatic arenas, and it cited his call for finding new alternatives to confront economic pressures from the American blockade of Iranian ports.
