Kfar Rumman strikes

Israeli airstrikes on the southern Lebanese village of Kfar Rumman killed at least 12 people and wounded others, with Lebanon’s Health Ministry reporting that one strike hit a building killing 11 people including two children and four women. The attacks came amid a new round of escalation between Israel and Hezbollah despite a truce reached more than two months ago, and the Israeli military said the strikes were retaliation for two Hezbollah drone attacks that exploded while targeting Israeli troops in Lebanon from the area on Monday.

In a separate account of the same escalation, Muslim Network TV said Israeli attacks across southern Lebanon killed at least 27 people and wounded 69 others over three days, with the latest wave concentrated around Nabatieh and residential areas repeatedly struck. Muslim Network TV also said one of the deadliest attacks struck a residential building in Kafr Rumman, north of the Litani River, killing 12 people and injuring 10 others, and it reported that a paramedic was killed in a separate Israeli drone strike on a vehicle in the same town.

Retaliation and ceasefire

WRTV reported that Israel’s military said the strikes targeted a Hezbollah militant trying to transport weapons to Kfar Rumman, while Hezbollah did not claim the attacks nor immediately issue a statement. Kfar Rumman resident Fouad Chakaron told WRTV, "We have been living in constant anxiety amid shelling on the outskirts," and he added, "Now they struck the heart of the town."

Lebanese Parliament Speaker Nabih Berri described Israel’s conduct as “acts of state terrorism,” accusing Israel of disregarding ceasefire arrangements and continuing attacks against southern Lebanon, its population and property, according to Muslim Network TV. Muslim Network TV also said Israeli authorities justified the operations by alleging that Hezbollah violated the ceasefire by launching a drone carrying explosives toward Israeli forces, while the Israeli military said its subsequent attacks were intended to strike Hezbollah targets.

Ali Taher ridge stakes

Multiple reports tied the escalation to Israel’s moves around Ali Taher hill and the Ali Taher ridge, with WRTV saying Israel’s military said it is in “operational control” of the strategic Ali Taher hill that overlooks several villages as well as main roads leading to the city of Nabatiyeh. WRTV also reported that the Israeli military issued an evacuation warning for a home in Deir al-Zahrani and shortly afterward a building was struck, while it said the strike was in retaliation for a drone attack by Hezbollah militants.

In a separate framing, Ynetnews said the relative calm around the ridge deteriorated rapidly and that Israeli defense officials feared a single incident could trigger a broader escalation, as the IDF prepared to complete dismantling Hezbollah infrastructure around Ali Taher Ridge before redeploying. Ynetnews described the ridge as a focal point because of its strategic terrain and the Hezbollah infrastructure built around it, and it said the coming days would determine whether the military can complete its mission and move toward a more defensive deployment without being drawn into a larger round of fighting.
