Arrest in Dura raid

Israeli forces arrested Al Jazeera Arabic correspondent Montaser Nassar in a raid on his home in Dura, near the city of Hebron, in the occupied West Bank. Israeli soldiers led Nassar, who was blindfolded and handcuffed, into a military vehicle after the arrest early on Tuesday at his home in Dura.

Nassar and his cameraman were previously assaulted in Dura on December 29, 2023, and the beating caused bruising. The raid was intended to intimidate the city’s residents, and Nassar was arrested alongside 20 other residents.

Detention numbers and release

More than 13 Palestinians were detained in Dura on Tuesday, and all were taken to an undisclosed location. Israeli occupation forces released Al Jazeera correspondent Muntaser Nassar and more than 20 Palestinians after their arrest at dawn today in the city of Dura, south of Hebron.

Al Jazeera correspondent Laith Jaar said the forces restrained the detainees, forced them to sit on the ground, and subjected them to abuse before withdrawing toward the eastern entrance of Dura at the Gate of Wad al-Fawar. Nassar’s wife told Mohammed al-Atarish that Nassar was monitoring the filiming of the incursions in the governorate and sending on-the-ground press coverage first-hand, before forces stormed the house and assaulted her.

Broader raid campaign

The raid and search campaign in Dura lasted for several hours and targeted various areas in the city of Dura and the homes of residents, including the home of Al Jazeera correspondent Muntaser Nassar. The campaign was part of a wide-scale on-the-ground escalation that included nightly and pre-dawn raids in several areas of the West Bank.

Al Jazeera named Tomo in the southern part of Tubas, the Wad al-Fawar camp, and the governorates of Qalqilya and Nablus as areas where occupation forces carried out raids. The arrest footage showed Nassar handcuffed and blindfolded as Israeli forces escorted him to the vicinity of 2:30 a.m. before their withdrawal.
