Uttar Pradesh, Nepal hit
Heavy rain and storms triggered floods and landslides that killed at least 56 people in India’s northern state of Uttar Pradesh and killed 14 people in Nepal, while Nepalese authorities warned on Sunday that more flash floods were possible. Hrishikesh Bhaskar Yashod, Uttar Pradesh’s relief commissioner, said the state recorded 66.5 mm of rain between September 25 and the morning of September 27, compared with a normal 7.6 mm for the period. Shanti Mahat, a spokesperson for Nepal’s National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority, said Rasuwa and Nuwakot should remain "alert" but were not currently considered high-risk areas.
The Central Water Commission said 30 river-monitoring stations across seven states indicated a "severe situation," and several major rivers including the Ganga, Gandak, Kosi, Bagmati and Narmada were above danger levels. Power supply was completely disrupted in the Manang, Mustang, Myagdi and Baglung districts as authorities worked to restore electricity, energy ministry officials said.
Warnings and missing people
Nepali authorities warned of possible flash floods in 49 of the country’s 77 districts, with more than half facing high flood or flash-flood risks as water levels in major rivers and tributaries continued to rise. Shanti Mahat told AFP that "Since Thursday, 12 people have died in rain-related disasters such as floods and landslides," and she added that seven more were missing. Reuters said 46 people were injured and more than 1,000 houses had been damaged in Uttar Pradesh in addition to the 56 deaths.R

Infrastructure and response
Flooding of the Rahuganga River damaged the structure and transmission-line towers of a 40-megawatt hydropower project, and Water Resources and Energy Minister Biraj Bhakta Shrestha said the damage affected the project. Reuters said communications in parts of Nepal were disrupted after damage to optical fibres and power supplies, and Communications Minister Bikram Timilsinha described the disruption. RIn Nepal, a technical team was deployed to assess damage and work on restoring the 40-megawatt hydropower project after the Rahuganga River flooding.
In India’s eastern state of Odisha, officials evacuated more than 70,000 people living in low-lying areas after rivers rose due to heavy downpours, NDTV news network reported. The Relief Commissioner's office said the latest deaths in Uttar Pradesh occurred during a spell of "exceptionally heavy rain" after a "depression over the Bay of Bengal moved inland and intensified rainfall across the region".
